Pugaboo
I would really like to reduce the amount of brush strokes I get when I apply my slip. The image I am going to screen has a lot of details in it and the texture from the brush strokes in the slip is a bit af a problem. What can I add to my slip to make it either brush on smoother or smooth out once applied? T
oldlady
just remembered charles counts and his trash cans filled with colored slip. he dipped the pots into the slip and then was able to carve anything anywhere on the pot. the pots were leatherhard and softened just a touch with dipping but the color was totally smooth. (early powder coating?) dipping top down allowed the outside to get color without the inside having any. dipping half a pot allowed color on just the bottom or top. best part, it is FAST! you probably cannot use 32 gallons of slip in various colors but maybe a small bucketful. slip is cheap, especially if you are using little loafers and coloring it with oxides, carbonates or stains. it does not go bad, even if it does get moldy you can cure that. Marcia Selsor
Try glycerin. it breaks surface tension ad is used in commercial brushing solutions. Marcia
Pugaboo
Thank you Oldlady and Marcia. Hmmmm. I'm not sure I even need 1 gallon of slip it goes a long way. I have a quart of bright white slip that I am currently using. Hmmm maybe I should thin it some more as dipping in it really wouldn't be an option, it's too thick for that. I will find some glycerin and try that... wish me luck! T
