Tatiana.laz
Hello everyone, I have set the kiln to fire at night time and it switched off in the middle of the firing because of a power cut. Can I fire that again to get to the right temperature? Will the glaze be compromised? Thank you! Tatiana
Min
It will be fine. Start it back up. Unless the kiln shut off near the end of the firing in which case the pots could be overfired, otherwise no problem.
Marcia Selsor
Do you know when it shut off? Just start over. There shouldn't be any problem. Marcia
neilestrick
There's a 90% chance it will be fine. It depends on when it shut off. If it was very near the end of the firing, I would let it cool and check it to see if everything looks good. If they look underfired then go ahead a refire them. If it wasn't near the end of the firing then just start it back up. With some glazes, if the kiln shut off just as they were beginning to melt you'll get crawling. Stephen
if it was toward the end something to check is if you think the bottoms have enough room for glaze not to run on shelf. Grinding glaze off shelves is an awful process so remove any that you think might run. This is also my criteria if I have a glaze defect and I'm thinking of re-firing. If it didn't get to cone though and glaze didn't melt enough to move it shouldn't be a problem. Good luck!
