ABskies
Currently I do slab work work on an older canvass covered work surface stapled to my sturdy 8'x 3' work table. Am tired of dust, creases and cuts. I would truly like suggestions from you re: preferred, non stick surfaces for wedging. I checked out Hardi board and found it to heavy for me to install. I looked for "green board" at Home Depot which does not have it. So folks............ What Are Your Most Preferred Work Table Surfaces For Wedging And Handbuilding? Many thanks from Jann @ ABskies
Marcia Selsor
This has been discussed many times with in depth opinions. You'll get many results for this.Look up frequently asked questions for a multitude of answers. For me, I wedge on plaster. I have two large formica tables and work and dry with slabs on sheetrock.I use wooden ware boards. I think we all develop our work and employ whatever works best for that direction. JohnnyK
Hi Jann and welcome to our forums! The "green board" IS available at HD. It is also called "Moisture resistant". It's not green these days...they've gone to purple. Here's a link for the material. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Gold-Bond-PURPLE-XP-1-2-in-x-4-ft-x-8-ft-Gypsum-Board-GB81000800/202090534 JK
bciskepottery
I use 24"x24" pieces of 3/4" plywood on top of my wedging table . . . one for white clay, one for red/brown. Wash them down with sponge after done working. No canvass in the studio. For assembly work, I put slabs on either drywall or 1/2" plywood sheets, with a sheet of newsprint underneath.
