moo00se
I am new to this forum and to the world of ceramics. I was given a PMC Kiln from my grandmother. I would like work with regular clay, would i be able to use the PMC Kiln with regular clay? Thanks a bunch in advanced.
ayjay
Different clays require firing to different temperatures. Basic info: earthenware clay is glaze fired to about 1100°C - mid-range stoneware to 1220°C - high fired stoneware to 1260°C (min.). The kiln should have an information plate on it which will tell you the maximum temperature that the kiln can reach. The closer you go to the maximum temperature (on a regular basis) the shorter the life of the elements will be. My kiln will go to 1300°C but I've never fired it over 1220°C. ClayChris
It depends on the kiln itself. The make and model should be stamped somewhere and you can then obtain the specs. I have a tiny and versatile Paragon that can fire to ^10 but they are not all equal.
neilestrick
I'm betting a PMC kiln won't go hot enough for clay. Check the serial plate.
