johningreece
Recently, I have been using this glaze, the surface effects are wonderful, but the results are not reproducible. I add a color stain and the resulting color is completely different even with the same clay bode. Anyone have any thoughts???
neilestrick
Are you weighing out your stain (grams), or going by volume (teaspoons)?

neilestrick
Weighing out your stain by grams would be the most accurate way to get consistent results. If you're getting inconsistency within the same batch of glaze, then I would take a look at glaze thickness, and make sure your kiln is firing evenly. johningreece
Yellow and brown stains hold their color, but blues and greens do not. So very strange.
neilestrick
That's a different situation. The makeup of the base glaze will affect how the colorants look once fired. There's no guarantee that every stain will work with every glaze. I've got a beautiful green celadon that uses a blue stain.
johningreece
the base glaze is calcium carbonate 36%, lithium carbonate 6%. I wonder if this is the reason for color differences??
