AndreaB
Hi everyone, can you answer a question for me. I have a bisque do bowl, which was under glazed before bisquing. I now want to add another under glazed element. Do I have to re-bisque or can I glaze? Thanks
Callie Beller Diesel
What brand of underglazes are you using? I find with the Mayco ones, the binder in them resists glaze, and you'd be wise to re-bisque. That said, I just saw a Mariko Paterson demo, and she mentioned if you give your pots a quick rinse before decorating, the slightly dampened pot will help draw the underglaze into the pores. I haven't personally tested this yet though.
Chris Campbell
It is wise to bisque again to reduce the possibility of the wet glaze making the underglaze run ... however, you can often get away without doing this ... the basic rule is ... if you really, really like or need the piece, it will run.Good luck! firenflux
I never rebisque and I do this all the time. I just make sure the piece is totally dry again after adding more underglaze and before glazing.
ronfire
We underglaze either before or after a bisquie with a clear cone 6 glaze that works well. If the underglace does not get fully dry before the item is dipped in glaze it does not cover as even. This has its own good affects at times.
