Denco731
Hello! I'm using a cone 5/6 clay (Laguna's Dover White), and it has been bisque fired. The glaze I want for it (https://store.schoolspecialty.com/OA_HTML/ibeCCtpItmDspRte.jsp?minisite=10206&item=2936393) is a cone 06 glaze. Can I use a cone 06 glaze on cone 6 clay? I hear that when people have fired the glaze to cone 6 the color fades and runs, so I'm thinking if it can be fired to cone 06, that might solve those issues. Thank you for any and all advice! bciskepottery
A cone 5/6 clay body glaze fired to cone 06 will leak like a sieve as the clay body will be under-fired and not vitrified. If the piece is non-functional, then that is less of a concern; but if the piece is functional and intended to hold liquids, you are asking for trouble. You may also have glaze fit issues. Find a cone 5/6 glaze instead.
Marcia Selsor
The ^06 is likely to craze over the ^6 clay body. It just doesn't fit the body. marcia
