Joyce
I'd like opinions as to what you think occurred. I have fired cone 6 clay with cone 6 glazes many times. Then added some underglaze with a clear and refired the pieces at cone 06. The cone 6 glazes have never changed color until my last firing. I had many pieces with a black cone 06 on them. Could the black have caused the color changes in my cone 6 glazes? A celadon green turned to a forest matt green, a pumpkin orange color went very pale and a waterfall blue went clear in many places. The pink purple turned pale green. The raspberry and mauve did not change color. Any ideas?
neilestrick
Any chance there was a difference in the firing hotter, colder, faster, slower, different cooling rate, different kiln?
Pleasant Pottery
I have fired previously cone 6 fired pieces in my 04 bisque if I was doing a repair with paper clay and I would say most of the cone 6 glazes were totally different when they came out of the bisque. Sorry, that's no help, though.
bciskepottery
Is the clear the same batch as used before or a new batch? It could be something changed in the ingredients used to mix the clear. Is the black underglaze the same?
Babs
Yes, I've had a clear green go to a mattish green when fired again to a lower firing.
Joyce
Any chance there was a difference in the firing hotter, colder, faster, slower, different cooling rate, different kiln? No. Everything was the same. Slow firing, same kiln, etc. The clear glaze had not changed and the black was one that I've used in the past, but never with a cone 6 glaze batch.
