clay lover
Have any of you used this clay? I'm looking for a dark ^6 clay. There are rumors about bloating if it is pushed ,since it is rated only to ^
neilestrick
It's wonderful stuff to work with. I wish they made a white version with the same feel. In my studio it does fine at cone 5, can bloat at cone 6. It does crazy things with glazes due to it's high iron content.
flowerdry
This is one of my favorite clays. It's lovely to work with, and does wonderful things to some of the glazes I use. They stopped carrying it at the community studio here because it was bloating occasionally at cone 6. I use it sometimes and then fire it myself at cone 5 with a 5 minute hold which gives a cone 6 just starting to bend.
neilestrick
And it's beautiful left unglazed. Great for texture.
clay lover
Thanks guys. I use several clays, depending on what I'm after. They are all good to a hot 6 or beyond. I use Highwater RedStone alot and am looking to use the 266 to darken it some. I can't get Standard easily , but can get the Highwater I have used 266 about 30 % mixed with Redstone . Good look and maybe that will get me past the possible blosting.
