preeta
Is it safe to drink out of commercial clay non glazed bisqueware? Laguna's ^6 Redstone fired to ^04 bisque. I have a soft spot for water pots. as a child growing up in india i remember the cold glass of water that i drank out of the water pot (still being made in some areas but not used as much before) and still remember the taste of the water. my knowledge of pottery now tells me they were one fire pit fired. not sure how hot it got. i would like to duplicate that. except in an electric kiln fired to ^04. thoughts? Rae Reich
If you can get it, a ^06 red earthenware would be the most ideal because it will have the porosity you want for evaporative cooling as well as being more durable because it's fired to maturity. It won't be food-safe for most anything but water since it can absorb flavors and smells and bacteria.
