pipefitter508
I have about 30 gallons of iron saturate and I am not quite sure how to use it This was given to me by an old potter who retired and I've been trying to dip some pots with it Once it dries it seems to crack and peel off the pots it seems to fall off onto the kiln shelf I've tried going over the pot with a damp sponge then dipping Even if there's a very thin coat it seems to fall off What am I doing wrong I have a lot of this glaze Bob
Babs
Is it meant to be applied as a raw glaze i.e. on greenware?

Rae Reich
Try brushing or dipping dry greenware. It does look like the glaze is shrinking more than the clay, which has already shrunk a bit during the bisque.

Did that potter happen to have 125cf of argon too? (inside "field" joke)
ayjay
After glazing the greenware should I bisque fire then fire to cone 6? Bob If it is a "raw glaze" it is only fired once, the final temperature should be whatever the both the clay and glaze are formulated for.

Babs
Research raw glazing on forums. Once glazed, once fired. Quite a different firing schedule. Having said that to test. Glaze your unfired test pot , bisque then fire in your normal glaze fire. Would give you an idea of what will work.
