My Favorite Wax Is Going Away-At Least From Laguna Clay Co.

Recommended Posts

I got news this week that Laguna Clay was just going to sell their Axner wax (more$) and quit ordering my favorite wax that I have used for 40+ years.

My 5 gallon bucket just showed up via fedex this am.

They will carry it until stocks are sold out. I suggest if you ever want a trouble free water based wax get some of this while it easy and cheap.

Its Mobilcer (crystalcer) wax resist.

It comes in all sizes from axone on the east coast or Laguna on the west coast.

I'm sitting on 10-12 gallons now-which may last me thru the end of life.

I apply it with a cut damp sponge. Some brush it.Started using this in the 70's and its been the best and I have tested them all.

If you want to see it more clearly add food color.I never do but it works

Just do not let this stuff freeze.

It appears to be the same but since amazon shows no stock numbers its hard to say 100%

this is the wax-my best guess is yes.

http://www.axner.com/mobilcer-a-wax-resist.aspx

Laguna west coast receipt says stock Number LM30116

WAX RESIST (Mobilcer-A)

Water based wax emulsion for decorating. Glaze is resisted where wax is applied. This was resist is an excellent, ready to use product. LM-3016 pint gallon 5 gallons

The distributor e-mail implied it was marketing decision but I do not know for sure.

it comes in pint gallons or 5 gallons

I always buy the 5 gallon bucket and decant it into 1 gallon plastic jars.-I get about 5-7 years per bucket

I only use this for hand waxing. Not hot dipping.

OH NO, is this the Laguna wax resist I use? I've tried so many other wax resists and this is the best. :(

You could e-mail ceramicartspace-the folks your are ordering this from  thru amazon and ask them exactly what wax this is?

I order through a Laguna supplier. That's a good point, I can ask him. Thanks, Mark!

Its not thats it gone test only soon while supply lasts with Laguna Clay and their distributors.

I finally heard why this wax is history

The east coast business that makes it was not selling enough and has other products that are more popular in industry. The price for 55 gallon drum just kept getting bigger.Laguna dropped it and others are following suit. I was told they only have a limited about of drums left.

Very few places now have any left.Laguna is long out.

I know one place that does so if you want some before its gone send me a PM-they sell it by the quart or gallon or 5 gallons . Its a ceramic supply place and I'm not affiliated with them-They are a few states away from my location.

I think I'll buy another 5 gallons so I will have 15 gallons to last me until I'm done.

Best wax I have ever used-its thick and you can see it well.I thin it with water and use a sponge to apply it.

I have had a few folks contact me on this post and get some of the last wax around. The last person was last spring. If you use wax to hand wax this is the best stuff .  Not sure if any is left but they still may have some.

The new replacement wax is watery thin and a pain to use or at least thats what I found with a sample that was supplied to me.

This is an old post but still may work for some.

Seattle pottery is the only place left who had this wax a year ago (Mobilcer-A)

They carry several kinds (brands)

If you bought this type there you got the good stuff-its thick and does not drip/run and cover well

If you have tried aftosa wax or the new laguna wax you will find it can be really runny thin and run and not cover well

problems with poor waxes I have had include wax souring top and stinking-to runny-to thin-to watery-does not resist glaze well.

Since you live near the source point box the last wax on the west coast I suggest you go ask them if they have any left. I will ad one important point-if the employees does not know what  you are talking about go find someone who does as I have had this experience there. The newer folks do not have a clue about this wax but a few know all about not there. I had to wait a day until one came to work to talk to about sending me another 5 gallons over a year ago.

If they do have some  still I'm telling you that its a limited supply so get what you need.

I been using their in-house brand, which is probably the Laguna stuff, looks the same anyway.  Same bottle even haha, just a sps sticker on it.  Maybe that's why I've never had an issue with bad wax, I haven't used bad wax yet!  I usually just mix with alumina for my lids and feet to keep things from fusing in reduction (iron body).  I haven't really done much artistic relief with it.

I use the wax from Ceramic Supply. It is by far my favorite wax, and the only one I have ever used that rinses clean out of brushes and never gums them up. I don't know what the name brand is, though. I'll try to find out next time I'm at their shop. Like most things, everybody has their favorite.

Nope just checked my bottle it is called crystal cer wax resist.  Works good though, I like it.

Another name is crystalcer A. My guess is that is what you have now just reprocessed into their named jar.

You may want to follow thru while its maybe still here?Or there.

I have a gallon jar so that's much more than I'll probably use in my life.  Anyone else who wants it they have it

Hey all. Not sure if this helps but the crystalcer a wax is plentiful. I am buying drums of it as we speak.

there is another wax that my dad has been using called “reeds wax” and he is switching teams over it. It’s more expensive but in his 50 years as a potter using the other stuff, he was like “I don’t care if it’s more expensive!” We are looking at buying a drum of that too and it will be up on amazon and our website in a month or two.
