Do You Wrap Your Tools To Make Them More Comfortable To Hold?

Recommended Posts

After a day of carving yesterday my thumb is still hurting and I feel like I need to start exploring some options! I've seen a lot of photos of tools that have obviously been wrapped up to form a cushion to make them more comfortable to hold, but I can never really tell what's going on. Wondering if any of you have a material/method that works for you?

I went ahead and attached a photo of the tool I use for carving.

I reached the quota for "likes". (What's up with that, anyway? Seems to me I should be able to show that I like (means appreciate the value of  the content and/or the spirit of the post) as many posts as I choose. Anyway....thank you Neil. I "like" your instant info and the convenience of the link and I am on my way to Home Depot now!!! This will definitely help with the arthritis in the hand.

I approach the tool problem from a different angle. You know those really soft work gloves with the grip buttons on them, yep. Works real well for me. At the same time, I use a little over the counter arthritis cream on my hands before putting on the glove.

best,

Thanks everyone for these ideas! Something like Vet Wrap / Bandage had occurred to me when I posted this but I never know if I'm just making things up that wouldn't really work. I'm pretty excited about the pipe insulation idea though and I'll see what I can find my next trip to the hardware store!

When my fingers lock up (stick straight out or bent) which is more often these days I cannot hold a tool no matter whats wrapped on it so I do not wrap them.

This seems to happen after glaze day which is the most brutal day on hands
