Anybody Else Get The New Style Of Boxes For Little Loafers Yet?

I just got my order in from Highwater Clays and noticed they have changed their boxes. I panicked for a moment let me tell you when the truck off loaded a pallet of 40 boxes that looked really different than I am used to. I quickly checked that the boxes said Little Loafers which they did. Whew! But I did notice the boxes say cone 3-6 now not cone 5-6. That's new as well and kind of weird since even online it states 5-6. I hope they haven't changed the formula, since I LOVE Little Loafers the way it is and think it's the perfect clay.

The boxes are very pretty though with Highwater Clay written in huge script across the top. Something I do NOT like is the boxes seem to crush easier and the sides bulge out quite easily. This makes it hard to stack more than 3 high or the whole stack starts to list. I realize clay can't be hurt by a crushed box but it's kind of annoying to have to change how I store them. The boxes use no tape to hold them shut either it's more of a tuck and fold configuration so standing them on their ends doesn't work as well either. Time will tell and I'll get used to the new style but since I can't stack them as high I now have clay running along several walls in my studio and under tables and under damps boxes to spread them out.

I just can't figure out why they changed them since the old ones worked fine. Anyone know why the changes?

Maybe with all the recent flooding the high-waters soaked the tape off.It sounds like they named the clay company after the past flooding.

On a more serious note -I have known every clay company over the 43 years I have been buying clay to change the boxes  sooner or later-its usually a cost savings deal-it's many times is a bad move-thin boxes -thin plastic bags.

The warnings are now much more now than the old days with no mention of warnings .Also the plastic bags go thru changes as well.

Sounds like bummer as I stack my boxes 8 high in clay shed.

Maybe I'm off base a about the flooding and the HIGH-water is what they are smoking-is this clay made in a legal marijuana state? maybe its the water? There has been a lot of lead stories in tap water back east?

Either way I would give them some feedback on the negative points on these boxes.Like why water down the box quality ??

Out west here I have never seen any high-water clay and the only little loafers are at the shoe store-those will not stand up to even cone 017 temps.

But they do offer them in sizes 4 thru 13 extra wide.

I recently got some of these new Highwater boxes too, and I love not having to throw away sticky little bundles of tape. And I love how the lids hinges open far enough to get your hand under the clay to lift it out. I have them stacked four high, as long as the stacks don't fall I'm ok with them looking a little crooked.

got 500 pounds and found the new boxes and the cone 3-6 also.  i called highwater.  they said the 3-6 must be an error and their tech person wanted the numbers on the boxes to check the batch.  forgot about the box change by then.

i like the ease of getting the bags out of the new boxes, the old ones were so tight i sometimes had to rip the cardboard to get the clay out.  remember tipping the box to make the clay drop out and it was not easy to keep one bag in while getting one out without smashing a 25 pound block on my foot.  but they did stack nicely.

bruce, mark, the new boxes take lots more cardboard with the full depth flaps.

Just as I thought-error from the high in high-water

( they said the 3-6 must be an error and their tech person wanted the numbers on the boxes to check the batch.  forgot about the box change by then. )

I like to wear large loafers in the evenings-my feet are to large for littler loafers.

I never had an issue with the tape as I simply cut it so there was no sticky strips to get in the way, in fact, it never occurred to me the tape was a negative for some. I also use the empty clay boxes to pack stock in to go to shows so was recycling the boxes. Getting my hands into the box was solved by standing it on end and simply tipping out the bag I wanted. The main issue with the new boxes is the 2000 pounds I ordered came stacked on a pallet 3 rows high and the entire bottom portion was crushed so basically the boxes are doing nothing to help me stack them 5 high as I have in the past. I dug through and sorted them into levels of stackability and put the worst boxes on top but still was unable to go higher than 3 without the columns listing horribly to one side or the other. It's no biggie just something new to get used to and I am going to miss having the boxes to reuse for packing stock in for festivals.

Glad to hear the cone 3-6 was a typo. I think Little Loafers is perfect the way it is no tweaking needed!

Pug-I'm with you on taped thicker boxes. I use my boxes for all kinds of things before they get recycled .I dry clay out in them from my sink settling system. They sit in sun with sink slip drying every week in summer sun.

I take pots to outlets in them.-Since I go thru 300-500#s per week thats a lot of boxes . I do break them down to flat state and send them with other cardboard weekly as well on our weekly recycle pick up. They also make great cardboard to tape between forms for shipping out UPS pots.

Good boxes are part of my system

I would let high-water know you like them to.
