Terra Sigillata Does It Get Old?

Does terra sig lose its effectiveness after a period of time?  I was told not to use some terra sig made about a year ago, that it wasn't any good any more.  Lin

short answer:  NO

 

longer answer:  nearly all solid suspensions in water eventually settle, so after a long time sitting still in a container, the TS may appear on the bottom as a sludge.  But, it isn't that much of a worry.  Shake well to breakup any clusters that have formed and use it.  For some purposes, you might want to put the slurry through a fine screen to assist in clump breakup.  I am using a batch made 10 years ago, and it works fine. 

 

If you want to store it, just let it dry out, and then store the powder until you need to make more slurry.  Saves storage space.

Thanks for this information.  Drying out the terra sig is a great idea as storage space is at a minimum.  Lin

If you have a slow-cooker it's very good at drying out t-sig.

I have added water to dried up TS and used it with any problems.
