nancylee
Hi, A few weeks ago, I did what I read and put Duncan Concepts on greenware and then bisqued the work. All of the pieces stuck to my shelves! I was under the impression that underglazes didn't stick - this was just the underglazes, no regular glaze added. What did I do wrong? Thanks, Nancy
bciskepottery
I've found some underglazes can stick -- blacks and blues with cobalt come to mind. What colors stuck? What was the thickness of application? And, what type of claybody -- stoneware, porcelain?
Min
Any chance they were bisque fired a bit hot? Kiln wash on shelves? I know some of the spectrum 500 series will flux at 04. Sorry to hear about this!
nancylee
I don't remember the colors - and it wasn't thick. I'm flummoxed.
Benzine
I've had some Amaco black and blue stick a bit at 04. They always leave a ring of color behind, but if I fire to underglazed pieces touching, they can stick a bit. Never had anything stick to the shelf, that I recall though. Celia UK
I've known underglazes flux too - a friend was most surprised at the shine on her 'bisqued' pieces with blue underglazed surface. I suspect your bisque went a bit high. There seems to be a narrow margin here.
Chilly
Aren't Duncan Concepts the ones that give a shiny finish without glaze? If so, I'm not surprised they stuck, something must be giving that shine!
