cbarnes
I was wondering if anyone has found a good resource for purchasing market supplies such as bags and bubble wrap, etc. I'm having a hard time determining the quality of the bags on say amazon for instance. I'd hate for a customer to walk away with their new treasure and have it fall through the bottom of the bag. any suggestions? thank you
Callie Beller Diesel
Uline is pretty ubiquitous. I use WR Display because their showroom is in my town and I like to be able to hold things I buy.
bciskepottery
I've used Uline and, more recently, Nashville Wraps. Brown kraft bags w/handles, tissue paper for wrapping. For sales with multiple items, I will double-bag -- not necessary but it makes me feel good about reducing a handle or flap failure.
Roberta12
I switched from Bags and Bows to Nashville wraps. A number of us here in town order from them, so we can put in a group order. I have found their quality to be quite good. I also get newsprint from Nashville Wraps. I get free bubble wrap from the local pet store. Most of their merchandise (not the fish and puppies and snakes!) comes wrapped in wayyyyyy too much bubble wrap. Nice long pieces. If you live close to a kayak store or snowboard/ski store, they have lots of bubble wrap also. Roberta
Pugaboo
I like uline and papermart.com as well. I use recycled bubble wrap and packing peanuts so I don't have to buy them. When I lived in the big city was able to go by the company that made paper bags and got them real cheap doing it that way so you might check and see if you have a company making bags in your area. I buy bright yellow bags and use purple curly ribbon to attach my sales card to the exterior of the bag. The sales card is about 3.5 by 3.5 inches and has a large running Pug on a lavender and yellow background. Staple it to the outside and it's clearly visible, it's a way I get a custom bag look for no money to specialty print them. Around here at shows everybody knows the bright yellow and purple ribboned bags are Pugaboo sales. I've had other artist come up at the end of a festival and say, boy you must have had a great show by the number of your bags I saw going by. I hope this also goes towards shoppers seeing them and finding me to purchase stuff. I was and am extremely glad I got away from reusing the bags from local stores what I do now is so much nicer and I want people to feel special when they buy something. I've had buyers go, Wow how pretty! When I hand them their sale all wrapped up in bright yellow with the ribbons and card. They leave the tent with an extra skip in their step and rarely just shove their purchase inside another bag, they treat it with the special care their purchase deserves because it's too pretty to smash into another larger bag. terrim8
I helped out by wrapping the pottery at one of the checkout desks at our club's last sale. We just used newspaper and clay boxes. I have never wrapped so much pottery in all the sales that I have helped out with- it was like a shark frenzy until after lunch time, then it quieted down. During the busiest point, I had to just concentrate on wrapping and stacking nicely into the boxes- no time for chit-chat.
Mark C.
I buy my bags by the bale from a market supplier called united grocery-its a western outfit. I wrap in white unprinted newsprint. I use 3 size bags the largest has a handle and I often double bag these as Bruce say above. I keep my costs LOW on packing stuff. I do volume sales and keep it simple and fast. I have a few photos of my setup if you use the search function as this is a common subject here.
Raelynne
I have started ordering my bags (white kraft bags with handles) from Staples online. They have a great selection of sizes and they are pretty cheap considering how good of quality they are...I have taken small orders to galleries in them, packed heavier than I should have and have never had one break on me. I get my packing paper from newspaper printing facilities (drawing a blank for the actual word for such a place!) they sell rolls of it that is a nice thickness for packing, and easy to haul to shows. I believe it's only a couple bucks per roll, and I'll only use a couple rolls per show. It's a good option if you aren't wanting to use newspaper but don't want to spend an arm and a leg on tissue paper or precut/packaged packing paper. Marcia Selsor
I ship mostly to individuals and a few galleries. I get 100 ft sq. rolls of bubble wrap and boxes (size increase by 2" from eBay. I have 4 large and small bubble rolls hanging from a poll in my garage. Out of the way and easy access. I get end rolls from the local newspaper. I can double box easily with my assortment of box sizes. Marcia
