AndreaB
Happy Sunday to all, I have a bowl (a large one) that is slipped on the inside with a red mason stain slip. What would the effect, detrimental or otherwise be if I didn't glaze the inside? The bowl is functional and is cone 8 stoneware Thank you all
MatthewV
It would be a red version of the unglazed portion of other pieces. Look at the bottom of one of your other pieces and think of it being red and inside the bowl. ...I wouldn't recommend finishing a large bowl this way. Callie Beller Diesel
I would think durability might become an issue over time. I have some tumblers that I just slipped the outside of from about 15 years ago. They're beginning to show the clay body underneath after that many years of use, including being put in the dishwasher.
Chris Campbell
I might be missing something here, but if the bowl is to be functional it should be glazed on the inside. Your red slip is just colored clay, not a protective glaze.
