Sherry's Ceramics
I have a question. My red glazes are not coming out red. Do you need to fire red by itself?
Chris Campbell
You will need to provide a lot more info before you can get a useful answer. Which glazes? What temperature? What fuel? Oxygen or reduction? What was your firing profile?
scoobydoozie
Here's an older article from Ceramic Arts Daily on the topic: http://ceramicartsdaily.org/ceramic-supplies/ceramic-glaze/getting-the-most-out-of-ceramic-glazes-and-underglazes-available-for-download/
Stephen Robison
If it is reduction then certainly read Tichanes book of copper reds. If mid range oxidation glaze and it is a copper red then make sure you are adding the proper amount of silicon carbide or whatever in-glaze reducing agent is in the recipe. Chris Campbell said it best what glaze. How long is your firing also. You can burn out the copper if the firing is to long.
