kitasclay
Hello clay community! I have a request of the experienced sellers here on the forum: I'm in the process of starting a wholesale relationship with a small coffee shop (they'll buy mugs outright and resell). We're still getting the details worked out but things seem to be on the right track and I'm getting excited! Before I invest any hard cash I want to make sure I have a contract in place with this person, even if it's a simple one. I know certain things are obviously going to be included - like terms of payment - but I've never done anything like this before and I want to make sure I cover my bases (aka my behind) on paper before I begin "for real." Any suggestions? Templates would, of course, be welcome (Or point me in the direction of an older thread on this topic? I searched but didn't have much luck) (Just to make sure there is no confusion, this is definitely a whole sale deal - I've heard enough horror stories about consignment to know that that's not a stress I need right now)
Roberta12
Kitasclay, there have been a few discussions about that...look under business, marketing and accounting. I actually started one a couple of years ago. I think the title was Another Question about consignment/wholesale. If you search for consignment, it brings up lots of discussions about both. I received some very good advice from the pros on this forum. So I drew up a simple contract, spelling out prices and terms, renew it every 6 months, and we all signed it. Good luck! Chris Campbell
It's easier than consignment ... Basically you set your price, they order and pay. It used to be standard that the first order was pre-paid and then it would be Net 30 ... With an automatic return to pre pay if they were late paying you. Now people like paying by credit card to get points and miles so pre pay might be the norm ... I have not done it lately so cannot be sure of this. One caution ... Do not send another order until the previous one is paid for.
GEP
Here are the terms I used when I was wholesaling: And this is the order form I used for new accounts. After the first order, most reorders came in by email or phone. No need to be this formal after you've already gotten all their contact info on file.
