Microwave Safe?

Recommended Posts

Ditto to what High Bridge said. i've even used low fire wares in the microwave, and no issues, other than getting hot. To be fair, so do the commercially bought wares I microwave too.

But as mentioned, the more porous something is, the more water it will absorb. Heat something in the microwave that was soaking in the sink, not long before, and you might have an issue. It would be fun to test, if I didn't value my microwave...

There is a specific accepted protocol for testing if something is labeled "Microwave Safe".  If you don't follow this protocol here in the USA... I'd be careful of formally labeling ceramic wares as "Microwave Safe".  Maybe more like "Can be used in a microwave".

Speaking of safety, I am looking to purchase a small amount of FDA-safe adhesive/epoxy, which I would use not to seal a small hole in a food vessel, and later for other fixes that come up.

What products of this type have you found, and where?

Thank you!

i am posting 3 pictures of what happened to the " freezer to oven, microwave oven, dishwasher safe" china that a family member put into the microwave to reheat dinner. photos are out of line, look at the last one for  the concentric rings that happened immediately.  disregard the chip.  this plate sits at the bottom of the stack and if a crowd is here, it is mine.i also took a photo of a salad plate with the same sad history. :(

this is why i microwave only on Corelle by Corning.
