Doc they vary to soft to hard see chart here-soft red -hard blue

http://www.clay-king.com/mudlist.htm

I like the green and yellow one's myself but I'm not a big rib guy anymore=I have a pile of them I do not use ,but when I need a rib I reach for the greens and yellows

I really like his mud cutter and bow cutters-spendy but they are the cats meow .

I use them on my extruder for cut offs and cutting sponge holders and soap dishes

I had a red one and a blue one. Apparently I threw the red one out with the clay water because it's gone, but the blue one is very nice. It's hard, but I use it for the inside of bowls (it's a small one) and also I like to use it for smoothing when I'm trimming. It's firm enough to handle leather hard clay.

My current life goal is that when I become independently wealthy I will have one in each color and then I will really know which one is my favorite. ;)

By the way, their wire cutters are AH-mazing. I splurged on two, one for my wedging table and one for my wheel. Best of their kind. My one complaint is that the only ones I can find are a little too short to work well cutting larger items off the wheel. But other than that they are wonderful.

I use yellow. I have 3 different ones and I use them all. After I throw my walls they are usually used for altering the pot on the wheel. I find I use metal ribs less and less.

My most used one is the : Y2 on that link that Mark provided. I also use the large bowl ribs a lot when smoothing the inside of my bowls.

My favorites to use are red in shapes 0 and 1 (for smoothing/finishing during throwing and trimming) & yellow in shape 2 for general throwing.  Folks seem to prefer green or yellow, but there doesn't seem to be much need to have both these colors once you find out which you like better.

The small shredder is great too.
