Evelyne Schoenmann Posted January 26, 2016 Report Share Posted January 26, 2016 Our last QOTW, and the "problems" a few of our potter mothers and fathers have with visiting children in their studios, gave me the idea for this weeks question: I'd like to see the kids "playing with mud" (I know, I know, one doesn't say playing with mud anymore.... ). It can be a picture of your own child or a picture/video found on the net. It should be cute and show the future clay masters.... If you don't want to show the face or your child, that's understandable. Take a pic of the hands or feet.. Here is my contribution. Kids making moooooonsterssssss..... I was sitting behind him teaching him how to use his hands to move the clay around, he said I don't need any more help daddy. So I just sat back and watched him drill holes in the bottom. Now when he comes out he just wants to hand build stuff. I end up mopping after every visit because millions of little clay balls end up on my floor. I doubt he will be a clay master. He is more into robots and electronics. He wants to learn to program as soon as he can read well so that he can start working on building a robot. Only a child sees things with perfect clarity because it has not developed all those filters which prevent us from seeing things that we don’t expect us to see. 1515art Posted January 26, 2016 Report Share Posted January 26, 2016 I posted some kid pictures to the gallery, I was having trouble getting them the right size to post here. First two were a teaching and throwing demo at the makers fair for a studio I belonged to. The others are from my daughters elementary school, every year she was in elementary school I would volunteer and provide all materials, firing and instruction for the whole class and we would make something. Callie Beller Diesel Posted January 27, 2016 Report Share Posted January 27, 2016 I *totally* have cute kids!! (Which is how they're surviving to adulthood, given the mischief level.) Skyler is my 7 year old son, and he's done drawings of his pet dragon that wound up on the side of one of Mommy's big mugs. He's also the dude at the table with the intent look on his face. My daughter Raven just turned 4. A friend caught this moment of her with a handful of clay I gave her to distract her long enough to finish pulling the handle I'm working on in the background. She is fond of all the potters that post pictures of their bunnies on Instagram. (I guess the new "real potter" identifier is that you need a rabbit.) Its so fun to listen to their delight in playing with clay. They make some really cool stuff and its fun to see their results. They make ice cream cones, rain sticks, ocarinas , bugs and animals of all sorts, bridges and creatures. Benzine Posted January 28, 2016 Report Share Posted January 28, 2016 This is a couple years old at this point, but one of the better ones I have. I had the vase essentially done, but gave my daughter a try. She caused the top to slightly fold in on itself. Of course, I saved and fired it. We still haven't glazed it oddly enough. Denice Posted February 16, 2016 Report Share Posted February 16, 2016 I had a friend stop by with his little boy yesterday, his boy asked me if he could make a lizard in my shop the next time he came over.
