Chris Campbell
Be it mixing glazes, reclaiming clay, mopping the floor ... we all have pottery jobs we don't like to do. So how nice would it be to have someone else do it for you? Here is the Potters Council question of the week ... If you could easily hire someone, what pottery job would you want them to do? As always please til the REPLY button OUTSIDE of the message itself so the messages are not copied every time.
PuraVida
The job I would have them do would be processing my local clay, it is such a task so much work but totally worth it. If I could get away with just making the pots and let someone else do the digging, drying out, smashing it up and sifting it through mesh, rehydrating it, then laying it out on plaster to dry, and then wedge it so that I could just come in the studio and go right to work. That would be awesome but I suppose I would lose some appreciation for the work if I outsourced the first steps. But oh how tempting it would be. Good question, Anthony
atanzey
I'd LOVE to have someone else to clean my wheel and tools after I throw.... I seldom do it as well as I should, but when I do, I love starting with really clean workspace.
Big Electric Cat
I would hire them to get my supplies, reclaim clay, and clean the studio. Oh, and also apply labels to my stuff when it came tiem for a show.

GEP
I really dislike packing and shipping. It takes a long time, and makes me feel anxious as I hand over the boxes to somebody else. I would love for someone to do it for me. Or even better, I wish I had my own courier, maybe a retired person who likes to road trip, who wants to take a nice drive every few weeks to deliver my orders. That way, I only need to pack the pots for a car ride, rather than the UPS system, and they would always be in the hands of someone I know. Chris Campbell
I would love to have someone load my back breaking, top loading kiln! Wrangle those shelves and load it up. Then fire it with exquisite skill ... then let me have the first peek inside .... then unload it for me. Bliss. Second choice would be for someone to give me the money to buy a front loading kiln! clay lover
Mixing and sieving new glaze batches, kills my back and I HATE wearing that respirator, gives me a rash where it touches my skin.
JLowes
How about having someone else that is objective and knowledgeable in ceramics come in and price your work? That might be nice. John
Idaho Potter
I'm with Chris on this one. Since a shoulder surgery, my reach isn't what it once was. Add to that the fact I'm shrinking (vertically!), and a top loading kiln doesn't work as well for me the way it used to. I had to reset my bottom shelf up the width of a kiln brick and fire smaller loads. Of course, I no longer have a 'cool' shelf anymore.
Lucille Oka
I would hire someone to be my human alarm clock and say, ' Ms. Oka, the sun is coming up you have to go to bed now."
