Artus
I'm looking for alternative pyrometric cone manufacturers/ suppliers worldwide. For example: Which cones are used in China or other countries instead of or after the well known O.-cones or Seger-cones?
MatthewV
New Zealand used Orton as well. Any reason for seeking an alternative? Orton is a non-profit and exemplary.
High Bridge Pottery
I have heard mention of taking boxes to Japan because they are very expensive over there. I would hazard a guess this is a similar reason.
Ulf
New Zealand used Orton as well. Any reason for seeking an alternative? Orton is a non-profit and exemplary. Some reasons: - O.-cones (Large LRB) are sold for example in Europe for around 0.32 $ (1€ ~ 1.09$) for 50 pcs. (good price?) - Pyrometric cones are not a hightech product. They could be manufactured in some countrys for lower prices. - For some reasons I need to know what other cones are popular in other countries. - I searched the Internet but found no informations. MatthewV
Actually, they almost are a high-tech product. Developing a material that measures heat-work is not an easy task. It is also a niche market. (I pay ~$0.26 each)
Mark C.
I do not think cones are made in many countries and they really are very hi tech if you think about it. I only know the two sources mentioned John may know of an eastern brand made in Asia?
Guest JBaymore
Seger is the standard in Japan. In Japan they are about 100 円 (Yen) each. At the moment the 円 is about 117 to the Dollar. Recent world economic turmoil has the 円 at the lowest value against the Dollar in a while (hurting my Dollar / 円 conversion rate at the moment). So right now they are a bit less than a Dollar a cone. For the US... on the average..... think about 50 bucks a box! I often take or ship Orton cones to my friends in Japan. There are also the Bell pyrometric cones and bars ( BELL RESEARCH, INC.): http://www.sheffield-pottery.com/Bell-Pyrometric-Cones-and-Mini-Bars-s/398.htm best, ..............john
