My Journey In 2015 - A Big Thanks To This Community.

Recommended Posts

So 2015 is coming to an end and a lot of you have known me since the beginning of my pottery journey back when it started in March 2014 when I bought my wheel.

I just finished up some greenware pots that I made yesterday. I trimmed some cups/bowls and added handles to some mugs. I have to say they are everything that I want from my pots. I want to thank you all for all the encouragement, information, and critique you have all gave me over the last year.

Pottery makes me very happy, and I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for this community. A lot of you know I have health issues, so pottery is what keeps my hands busy and my mind sane.

I just wanted to post some pictures of my pots to show the places I have came from thanks to the help from these forums and all the wonderful things you people share and talk about each and every day.

My very first kiln load of pots:

Those pots glazed:

One of my very best first mugs:

Learning to throw porcelain and getting handles right: They were still pretty wacky.

And my new work from today! I have truly found where I want to be in my form. My goal now is to figure out how to get my glazes to be consistent and what I want and to make them fit the character of my pots.

Again. I just want to thank you all for your help along the way. I was talking to my wife about these forums, and how if they didn't exist, I would never have even gotten this far, as I am self taught with the help of these forums, a few videos, & 4 classes that I took to make sure I wanted to buy a pottery wheel.

So a big thank you! and Happy Holidays and a Wonderful new year. May all your kiln loads be awesome, and may you find your goals in the new year.

Seriously. Thank you all.

You've made great strides Joseph!  Your best "first" mug is very good, and your work keeps getting better.  You seem to be experimenting with new styles and forms (aren't we all), and they all look awesome.

I'm glad you are not letting the health issues hold you back.

Best of luck as you continue your journey, and Happy Holidays to you and your's as well!

You should be proud Joseph, such beautiful pots and you are moving along so fast. Well done.

Isn't this forum the most supportive respectful place? It seems to attract such a diverse yet similar group to interact with.

What will next year hold? Exciting !

marcia, i am still laughing.

(i keep thinking everyone proofreads before posting so i looked for the sculptural bugs joseph made. :D  )

Me too.  I scrolled up and down and couldn't find any bugs.  Wasn't sure if I was looking for nice bugs (ladybirds) or yucky ones.  Finally realised that m and b on the keyboard are both typed with the first finger, when all I could find were mugs.   :)

Hello all- I can certainly echo Joseph's comments about how helpful this forum is. I only began my journey in October after years of saying "some day I'll take a pottery class." Well, I began my first class in October and I am hooked. Our class is basically an open studio with little/no instruction, so between what I've read here and youtube videos, I am trying to soak up as much information as possible. I just wanted to thank you all for generously sharing your insights and thoughts. You've certainly helped me! Happy New Year!

They look Great Bro. Yes, this forum is such a great place to learn from.. I think the people here are hands down the best you can find anywhere.. I have always had honest responses to my questions, I would rather have honesty than have someone worried about how i might feel... Your pots are looking really good, you should be very proud and im glad to see you doing good... Keep up the good work...

Looks like you are finding your nitche...

Your pots from your first firing are amazing - and then they get even better.  My favorite is the mug on the right in the top row of your new work.  It has a relaxed, carefree air while the one to the left is more stern and serious, keeping an eye on that young punk to the right who doesn't know how dangerous the world can be - made me laugh.  Congratulations.

So I just wanted to do a little update of the a few fired pieces. I am super happy with my results! These were a test firing of the new glazes I have been working on.
