How Far From The Kiln Body Should A Controller Be Placed?

My kiln came with a bracket into which the controller slides. It sticks out like the proverbial and will be swiped or knocked for sure. THe bracket is on top of the electrics box, and the part which holds the controller is sticking out from that box. Would send a photo but I have not assembled it as I really want to reposition the bracket to a less vulnerable place, even not on the kiln itself., or I could position it still on the top of the electrics box but this would position it closer to the kiln body.
Any thought s would be appreciated.
Off to tap porcelain sticks into the kiln to keep those pesky elements from springing out."The lady should tap these onto the elements to secure in position and leave in place.." THh kiln came with many already holding down the elements and this "lady" didn't think she would have to do this....yet.
Just disgruntled here, blame the weather I guess.

That's seriously sticking out.  I'd be bruised all over if that were mine.

My own little kiln has the "wiring" on the back and the control box on a cable so it is mounted on the wall (wooden rails between greenhouse uprights) so is easy to reach and not walk-into-able.

The kiln at the centre (bigger with front-opening door) has it's controller mounted on the wall beside it.  For about two years we struggled to look at the controller, then one day I said, "it would have been useful if they'd hung this on a keyhole hanger" and put my hand under it and pushed.  Up and off the wall it came.  It WAS on a slide off bracket.  Duh.

So, if you can detach it and place the controller somewhere else DO SO.  You will appreciate the effort every time you use it or walk by it for the rest of it's days.  Good Luck.

I was thinking of moving it to the narrow side of the electrics box, opp. side to the name of the kiln, making it closer to the kiln body but below lid level. This would make it lower but I'm not tall. ALso thinking of making a separate stand which would take it away from the kiln a ways or stand in the space created by the electrics box sticking out.

This kiln has a counter weight to the lid, which does not allow me to have the kiln facing in any other way. This counter weight arm also does not allow the lid to open to the vertical which, of course I did not know. this may be standard prac. but will disallow any single large vessels being fired. A my ailing strength will also disallow this, I am getting to the ok point with this factor.

Thanks Guys  I appreciate your input.

Looks like they missed out when designing that. I can hear it now-hey where should this go we forgot about it-put it there out of the way.

Exactly!!!!!!! along with the lid not opening to the vertical.........Elements looping out on arrival, doing my drying out of kiln firing right now, no instructions had to harass for them, wrong manual for controller, different controller from that ordered,   no wiring details for the electrician.. had to call the factory.

Next life I am coming to live within "coooeeee" of you, Neil and J Baymore, Min, Gep, Diesol, hell the lot of you. I won't stalk you but you will be in my peripheral vision at all times....You have kept me almost sane during this. Lucky for many that I do not live near this factory.

Poss. the result of the buy out of a good brand of kiln in the last couple of years has resulted in this.

ANyway, can only get better.

Now I am going to manufacture a stand separate to the kiln to place the controller, as I guess the wiring to the controller is a regulated length.
