alainlabbe
Hi all, need your advice, I am currently firing decal/transfer paper with an electric kiln, and for different reasons I am thinking to change for a gas kiln, then my question is, is there any one who fire decal with the gas kiln with excellent result and maybe if you could share the schedule to reach 850degre Celsius? Thanks in advance!
GEP
I don't have the answer to your question, but I am moving this topic to the "Studio Operations" section where it will get more views.
Mark C.
I think its more about the colorants in the decal than the type of fuel used in kiln. All my decal work has been in an electric-most of the pots were 1st high fired in gas kiln then decal s applied and refired in electric at lower temps. With great control. neilestrick
Decals have a maximum temperature at which the colors will hold. Reduction firing will certainly affect the colors. If you're firing in oxidation, the type of fuel shouldn't matter.
jo4550
There is no reason why you shouldn't fire decals in a gas kiln. The main thing is to have a very slow temperature rise to 400-450.C so that all the combustibles can burn out. At all times keep the kiln in an oxidizing atmosphere to 800.c. You need to keep a clean atmosphere so even over-oxidiziing is advisable. For many years I fired both lustres and decals in my gas kiln very successfully.
