Evelyne Schoenmann
Since today is my Birthday and I just got a gift voucher from my dear husband for my favorite supply store, this week's question is easy: Do you get pottery utensils like vouchers, tools, clay, workshop vouchers etc. as gifts/presents for your Birthday, mothers day, fathers day, Christmas, Saint's day (you name it)? If somebody askes what do you wish for your Birthday etc., are your wishes related to your being a potter? Maybe you have story for us about a special "pottery" gift you got? Denice
We don't exchange gifts anymore but I use to get gift certificates for my birthday from my in-laws from our local ceramic supply store. It was always my favorite gift, I would always use it for some tools I wouldn't normally buy. Denice
jolieo
Happy Birthday Evelyne! Not yet , but I sure hope so! It is what I would ask for...
Mark C.
Never-I have all that I would ever need tool wise. I doubt my wife wants to buy 9 tons of clay for me-I'll ask as the bill is coming this month. Mark
PRankin
My kids have been getting me gift certificates to The Ceramics Shop and Clay-King so I'm pretty happy. Paul
Evelyne Schoenmann
Denice: like you, gift certificates are my favorite. You can buy whatever you want... jolieo: thank you! Regarding pottery related gifts: can't you hint hint in your family when a Holiday or Birthday is coming near? Mark: well, I can understand the refusal of buying 9 tons for a gift... , but small tools? Gift certificates? Paul: is this for coming Christmas? Why do you already know what you are getting? If it's for past Holidays or Birthdays: lucky you!
Sallyd
Hope you had a lovely birthday, Evelyne. My daughter usually buys me a subscription to Ceramic Review at Christmas...a lovely gift that lasts the whole year. I have had a couple of vouchers too. I tend to use them for 'luxury' items such as tools, glazes, etc, that I've looked at on websites but can't justify buying. Always watching the pennies! PRankin
Evelyne, they've gotten them for me the last two for the holidays and on my birthday. It's easy for them and is pertect for me and better than a shirt or socks. Oh, come to think of it, I do need socks. I guess I'll go out and buy my own dammit! Callie Beller Diesel
Happy Birthday Evelyne! About 7 years ago, Wayne stripped the carpet out of a basement bedroom and spent a few days scraping off aged underlay that was glued to the cement so that I could have a studio. He really loves me!â¤ï¸â¤ï¸â¤ï¸â¤ï¸
Mark C.
Evelyne My wife says she is not interested in buying my 9 tons of clay. I think I would have better luck asking for an airplane. Mark
Cavy Fire Studios
I got my first Mud Tool and Dolan trimmer as a gift from my ceramics instructor when she went to Archie Bray (AND I WAS THE ONLY ONE SHE GOT SOMETHING FOR, HEEHEE), which was freeeeaking awesome of her to do!! My fella also spied a bag of various pottery tools at a thrift store once, and got it for me as a random present. Oh, and my dad bought me a TON of stuff from Seattle Pottery Supply ($250 worth of whatever I wanted) for Christmas three years ago, so that was awesome. Most folk don't know what to get me on the pottery end, though.

LeeU
The best gifts I get are the enthusiastic expressions of support from my family and friends, who are rooting for me all the way, and the generous sharing of tips, techniques, and encouragement from the local ceramics community, and from the folks on this site and other clay/art-related Internet contacts. When I started this venture, I asked my peeps to not get me any tools...I told them that generic gift cards are much more useful and very appreciated. That has been a blessing, and every penny has helped me with the cost of clay/equipment/tools.
