It tilts, is adjustable height and has a broad seat which helps not having pressure points . Best part , it was 5$ at the 2nd had store.. they are there often. Best wheel seat ever. oldlady Posted November 3, 2015 Report Share Posted November 3, 2015 this moves too much to allow you to concentrate on what is in front of you without having the stool slide backward and throw YOU on the floor. see above post. those nice, round bottoms look great and the designer must be very proud. neilestrick Posted November 3, 2015 Report Share Posted November 3, 2015 Before switching to throwing standing up, I just used a normal old wooden kitchen chair from Target. I put rubber stoppers on the back legs to tilt it forward a little more. I liked having the back on the chair so I could sit back and relax when needed. For the classroom wheels I have a bunch of square wood stools form Ikea, that they unfortunately don't sell any more. They were only about $12 each! Every few years I have to re-glue them, but they're still going strong after 11 years of heavy studio use. Some of my students bring a small cushion to put on them. They come regular chair width or extra wide,so that one side is on the bathroom floor and the other is in the tub,tub side has big rubber cup feet to prevent sipping. Very stable. I guess there are more old folks in the South,because the resales stores here almost always have one. Google 2nd hand hospital supplies in your area .?? I am convinced that we should spend some money to prevent later orthopedic problems. I am with oldlady on the nilserik stool. You would wiggle around too much on that stool. Pres Posted November 4, 2015 Report Share Posted November 4, 2015 115 bucks, but I have been using this stool in the studio for two years now, and love it. Years ago I bought a bunch of these for the hs, and 30 of the flat ones. They are still holding up quite well for wheel work, and others are working well for the classes that are Art 1 and Ceramics 1. No punctures in stiff padded top, no gas cylinder problems, and no breaking arms. It has a taller back then the one Pres uses, but otherwise is the same. I love being able to swivel the seat, lean back against the chair back, and even "crab" around, since the 5-wheels allow it. When new, these can be a bit expensive, but hey, my back is worth it! If you can find a used one, it's even better. Good luck, whatever you choose.
