Tree Fishing Season-A Bit Off Topic But Clay Related

Recommended Posts

This is a bit off topic but working in clay all the time one needs a hobby that is non clay realated and close by thats quick and easy so you can get right back to the pots drying that need trimming.

I like tree fishing. Its a bit unknown for most but I'll explain the idea. One waits  for the right season when fish are thick and then hangs in a tree as most fish do not notice humans hanging in trees.

if you are fast you can just grab one as it goes by-sort of like bears at water falls.

This can work for many species of fish.I like king salmon so I target those.

So after a long day of production work I like to climb one of my apple trees and spend some time tree fishing. If its slow you cannot hang upside for long as all the blood rushes to your head so some safety procuations need to be advised. Again I suggest you do not try this until you master hanging from trees by your legs.

I'll post a photo later to show you the particulars.

The beauty of this is it also very good exercise.

I will add one could wear a bike helmet-as I use to be a bit reckless and never wore one. Now Its a must.

You should have worn that helmet. Was there a question in here somewhere?

They miss the humans because they are on the look out for griz.

You should try ice fishing . . . much safer and coincides with the slow time for making pottery.  Then, again, with a small generator, you could take a wheel along and throw pots while watching your tip-up.

It's called suspended Sirsasana, best thing ever, and if fish happen along, just goes to show that reality changes according to the viewer. Is it real or what you're expecting????

YOu may have to pay mega bucks for this experience at some retreats....

Choose your branch carefully, height is important as is thickness and age. High Blood pressure, if not induced by reading Mark's posts,  prob. will not like this position.

Tell your partner you are going for the suspension in case you forget to come down.

Not to be done during the shootting season unless wearing a fluoro leotard.

How much mercury was in that last glaze you drank , Mark?

Or are your fillings disintegrating??

Mark you are cheating, real fisherpeople use only one branch and hang from the back of the knees. THis allows for a pendulum type action not dissimilar to fly fishing. This action also allows for spectacular dismounts on catching the fish.

I Know I know, this is just you retiring , quiet way off asking Chris C for a couple of her fish to hang in your apple trees....

I have fish hanging from branches all over my yard ... I find them amusing and once the cold weather hits, I need 'amusing' ... They hang from fishing line that catches the sun in a nice way too. Have never tried to catch them though as I cannot hang from branches upside down.

Well in the fall i like to go pheasant hunting. I lay on the ground and cover myself with dirt and leaves and wait until the pheasant walks by and then grab it!   sorry, no pictures.   rakuku

YOU are not trying hard enough! You go through your procedure as listed above, attach the camera to the pheasant on catching. Release the bird, go back to lying under the leaves, and wait for the bird to reenter your zone...It will do the photography for you

This will make it more interesting as you may have to catch a few pheasants before getting the pic you want.

We're pretty fussy about the quality of images posted here. Just saying!

Can you tell we a re all a bit itsy as the Halloween evening approaches

Tried it and couldn't get the ice to bite. I even put cream on the hook......No luck.

Now my dad was a great fisherman. One evening we were fishing below Whiskeytown reservior, not too far from Mark's neck of the woods. He was fly fishing and went to whip the fly into the stream. The fly never made it. A bat caught it in mid-air. It was quite the event...

Of course it was not as big as the king salmon. Then again, the king salmon couldn't fly.
