rakukuku
Who else thinks titles help sell work? Since all my stuff is sculpture and mostly silly I like to give them silly titles. Just made a goat who is eating a cookbook. its called "Read it, don't eat it". Will try to post a picture in the gallery. Anyone else into this? rakuku
High Bridge Pottery
This title and slight dyslexia sold me boobies. I like really good names for work and believe it really helps sell. I am sure bad names for good work helps them not sell
GEP
I make functional pottery, and most of my designs have names. Sometimes the name is as basic as "tumbler" but still I do think it helps sell them.
Chris Campbell
I name my non functional work .... I don't know if it sells them but it invites a conversation about why I named it that. The connection from this conversation might sell the work. Yes, I also name functional work since people will pick up a bowl or cup and ask what you would use it for. Mark C.
I do not think you mean its a chopstick bowl? Maybe more appropriate is when customers say I'll by it later do you have a web site and I respond with buy it nowdotcom as the shipping is free right now. Denice
I think having a name on a sculptural piece help people relate to it and give them more of an connection which encourages them to buy. My husband sells car parts and stuff on E-bay, the car parts sell faster and for more if he has a story that goes along with that part. Mark C.
I think Denice is spot on as titles help connect customers with sculptural work. I always put crazy titles on my sculptural work but it never sold. Mark
Cavy Fire Studios
I put titles on my intricate pieces, but not on my simpler ones. Coming up with titles is a pain for me, hehe.

Callie Beller Diesel
I had made some little flasks earlier this year, and I had them titled as whiskey flasks. People seemed to receive them a bit better when I started getting less specific, and calling them bottles. Anyone else find something like this? Marc McMillan
I like silly titles, but if you are selling via a website, I'm not sure they help with SEO.
Pugaboo
I have names for my lines of work: Falling Brightly (fall colored leaf patterned pieces) Blue Lace and Flowers (blue rutile with lace patterns and some with white sprigged flowers) Blue Lagoon ( midnight blue and floating blue all swirled together like, well the water of a lagoon lol) Golden Scrolls ( scroll patterned with firebrick and Albany slip brown glazed half n half with an overlap) Turquoise Dreams ( Art Deco inspired colors turquoise with pink. A vine and floral design impressed with the flowers in pink) I put cards out that say boring things like: spoonrest, sponge holder, hostess set, salad set, tidy kitchen set, trivet, mini dish, etc for shows it helps people know what they see if they have never encountered it before. This is helpful when I get busy and people can't ask me what something is. You would think a spoonrest would be self explainitory even with a wooden spoon example to show people but they still have to ask. Cute names I reserve for sculptures and one of a kind pieces. T PS. I did buy a large turtle sculpture that is super cool from a gallery that carries my work. I named him Dooby since he didn't have a name. I added a little sombrero for his head too. My husband said that name makes him sound like a stoner! I said no his name is... I Do Be a turtle. Oh and yes he looks like he's real laid back so who knows maybe he has vices I don't know about. JLowes
I have a friend who I was discussing this with that always has the most interesting titles. I was surprised that the name comes after the work, and may be as simple as the last place she vacationed with a twist. If you see a titled work in a show or gallery and want to find the artist later, the title may help. I was embarrassed when I took Second in Show and my piece was listed as "Untitled". That will never happen again. John
