terry94705
I'm looking for something to use as a outdoor protectant for sculptures fired (to cone 05) in Amaco Velvet Underglaze. I love the matt finish of the velvets, but they do not do well out of doors, collecting dirt quite easily. I tried a Western "transparent satin matt" glaze but --as my teacher predicted-- these "matte clear" glazes are not really transparent and they knock back bright or dark colors. (I don't want to go glossy.) I think I may be looking for a post-firing solution --some kind of sealer?-- but I would also be glad to hear from anyone who has had better luck with a clear matte overglaze on dark/bright underglazes. neilestrick
Where are you located? How you need to deal with the sculpture will have a lot to do with where you live.
terry94705
I'm in a mild weather zone --San Francisco area-- so no issues with freezing.
neilestrick
Since you don't have freezing issues you can use just about anything. There are lots of urethanes in spray, brush and wipe-on formulas that have a satin matte finish. Take a walk through the hardware store.
