In my studio most of the time it's just the sound of my own thoughts bouncing around my head. It's a TV free zone, THAT was a requirement. I have a computer and if I am in the mood I'll put on Loreena McKennett or Enya. If I am cleaning it's something with more omphf to it like Meat Loaf or Tori Amos. Probably aging myself with those choices. On nice days when I have the doors and windows open it's the sounds of birds and my Pugs barking at said birds. I can't work with music with lyrics, otherwise I'll listen to what they sing instead of working. So I go for instrumental music. A friend made me discover Ludovico Einaudi recently, I love it. Posted August 31, 2015 Report Share Posted August 31, 2015 two 300 disc CD players in the house feed my studio speakers (have volume controls on many sets of speakers) on a set in studio and a set in kiln loading area- set on patio-set next to salt kiln-set in office set in living room set in kitchen-hey did I say I like music???? No dust no rust-no clay-put it on shuffle and forget it for a week. Have a 8 set speaker switcher box and remote volume controls on system .One of the bennies of being a jack of trades-Potters need skills I was told at a young age.No song outplays the rest on shuffle play. Mark C. Posted September 1, 2015 Report Share Posted September 1, 2015 The dream system means lots of conduit buried to out buildings and wires run everywhere under and in house Attic. When you gut the walls or build on this is prime time to think about just such details on your home. As far as the studio that was high priority after a radio in the early 70's got old fast-then on to a reel to reel tape deck which clay dust killed went to a car stereo tape deck-went thru 3 of them-then on to a buried conduit for sound from the house (dust free)worked thru tapes then onto cds-now I would not trade thia for my i pad or smart phone-its my music the way I want it. Never touch a thing except volume control all day long. When the trench is open put in a few spare conduits as you never know whats ahead-I ran phone line later and cable tv(not used )not a tv fan while studio working. water trench is also good-along with a few hundred amps in another trench-all needed for good studio work. If you build a few houses along the way this also helps your studio skill set.Plumbing skills will also aid you as a potter.
