DirtRoads
Is it a common occurrence for a transformer to go out on a Paragon TNF 27-3 or any kiln for that matter? In my 5 years of kiln ownership I haven't seen a transformer problem. I'm waiting till Monday when people are here before I do the electrical test with the multi meter, but right now it seems that the transformer is the only issue if a controller doesn't get any power? I tested the outlet and box and power is at the receptacle. And from what I can see it's not the fuse. Or wiring. So isn't transformer the only option? I really want to just order one Monday and skip that test tbh. I don't relish the idea of poking around a kiln with the power on.
neilestrick
In 11 years of repair work I've only seen 1 transformer go out. If there's no power to the controller I would suspect the fuse first, or more likely the fuse holder. It's unusual for a fuse to blow, but not unusual for the fuse holder to have an issue. They're just plastic junk. Unfortunately, you're going to have to follow the power with a meter. If you're just checking the controller, you shouldn't have to power on the elements. DirtRoads
Thanks Neil. It was not the transformer. It's a problem in the Controller.
neilestrick
Bummer. Not usually worth repairing the controller. New ones aren't terribly expensive, though.
hershey8
I thought new controllers were about $500. Am I missing something?
neilestrick
New controllers are about $250 to replace on an existing digital kiln. They cost $500 or more if you need a complete assembly that a manual kiln plugs into.
