Us Pigment Stains And Raku Glazes

I was ordering from Axner most of my materials, but I found US pigment and ordered from them. I much prefer their customer service and they give you a shipping price right up front when you place the order. Also it doesn't come from like 3 different places. All from one, and their prices are a little bit lower than axners. I was quiet pleased with them. As far as stains go, I haven't used any yet, but the company itself seemed fine.

raku colors can come from any of the cone 06 colored glazes.  Marcia Jestaedt,  one of the potters at the Torpedo Factory in alexandria, va. does huge wall hangings in beautiful colors.  they came out of the little bottles you see at paint your own places.

Thanks for the replies.  US Pigment's reputation clearly supports trying their proprietary products.  The images I've seen of Marcia Jestaedt's work are impressive and the description of the process on her website is very interesting.  I've successfully used low fire glazes for raku but the silver nitrate wash takes it to a new level - at least when applied by expert hands.

silver nitrate is what was used by the Eeles family in england.  check them out, i watched them firing one day in 2004. they were dressed like astronauts and put the work on old kiln shelves covered with sawdust then put metal washtubs over the work and drizzled more sawdust to exclude air.  gorgeous results

just looked at their website and did not find any of that kind of thing.  guess they are not doing it anymore.

For what its worth I have dealt with them for decades. My last order was about 30 days ago-

10#s of colbalt Oxide and 10#s of high puruty Iron Oxide and 1# of thier purple stain.

as to the above post I have used silver nitrate and some other nasty exiotics to fume porcelain in salt fires-I still have those materials and they are not user friendly-I do not have a moon suit but if anyone wants to send me thier old one I'm an XL.

PS maybe when I die they will declare this a super fund site-I think now its morphed to crowd funding?

As an update to my previous post. I ordered from US Pigments on Thursday morning. Got my order Saturday morning, saved 50 dollars compared to Axner for the same stuff, including shipping, which was the majority of the difference.

So I am thrilled with their service.

For smaller amounts they ship flat rate USPS boxes and its really cheap for the poundage-If it fits its ships so a 25#-45#s fits in a $17 flat rate box (as a side note this box fits 50#s of clay)  -my 20#s was under $12 to ship.Usually 2 days to get to you as well.
