  7. Hi Folks, Attached is the prospectus for the Workhouse Clay National 2015 at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton Virginia. This year’s juror is Anne Currier. Deadline to apply is May 6th, 2015. Please go here to apply: http://www.juriedartservices.com/index.php?content=event_info&event_id=887 Anne Currier is a ceramic sculptor and professor of ceramic art at the School of Art and Design, New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. She received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute, Chicago in 1972 and MFA from the University of Washington, Seattle, in 1974. She has lectured and presented workshops throughout the U.S. and the People's Republic of China. Ms. Currier has been the recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts and the Virginia A. Groot Foundation. In addition to inclusion in many private and corporate collections, Ms. Currier's work is held in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC; the Renwick Gallery of the National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institution's, Washington, D.C.; the Contemporary Museum, Honolulu, HA; the Musee des Arts Decoratifs de Montreal, Quebec, Canada; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, CA and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Kyung-ju, South Korea. Anne Currier was born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1950. She currently lives in Scio, NY with her husband, George Hrycun who is also an artist and educator. We look forward to seeing your entries. Workhouse Ceramics Workshop Julia Galloway March 6-8, 2015 $200.00 February 4 - March 8, 2015 Exhibit (Building W-16-2nd floor) March 6- Reception and Artist Talk-7pm-9pm (Building W-16) March 7-8, 2015 Workshop 10am-4pm (Building W-8) In this two day workshop Julia will demonstrate a combination of wheel throwing and hand building techniques in making pottery. Using slips and under glazes she will develop different surface decorations and discuss ornamentation in utilitarian ceramics. Julia will discuss ideas about surface decoration and relationship to form and function. In addition, Julia will discuss and show examples of historical and contemporary ceramics to support idea and technique development in her work. She will also discuss mid-range glazes and soda firing. Workshop participants should plan to participate in group discussions and bring a bag lunch, any photos for inspiration and a sketchbook.   10. Hi Folks, The Workhouse Ceramics Program is pleased to be once again sponsoring our annual Drink This! International Cup Show. Call for entries deadline is November 3, 2014. This years juror is studio potter-Phil Rogers Exhibit will be on display from January 7, 2015-February 2, 2015 in the Ceramics Gallery-Bldg. W-8 Drink This! will showcase ceramic drinking vessels by contemporary artists around the globe. The focus of the exhibit is on the variety of ways artists explore the cup, in functional, sculptural, traditional and non-traditional forms. A Skype session discussing juror decisions, etc. with Juror-Phil Rodgers will occur in January 2015 along with a mini-workshop for local High School students associated with creating drinking vessels. Applications and prospectus can be found at www.juriedartservices.com/index.php?content=event_info&event_id=831 Juror - Phil Rogers Phil Rogers is a studio potter residing in the Welsh town of Rhayader, and is known for his salt and ash glazed vessels, using locally sourced materials. He has exhibited widely in the U.K., USA, Europe and Asia , and has works represented in over fifty museums and collections, including the Victorian and Albert in London, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, Keramik Museum in Koblenz , Germany, the Inchon World Ceramic Center in South Korea, and Princesshof Museum Nederlands . Rogers is a fellow and past Chair of the Craft Potters Association of Great Britain, member of the Royal Cambrian Academy and the International Academy of Ceramics. He has published numerous books, articles, and films on ash glazes, throwing and salt glazing, and has presented lectures and workshops around the world.   11. Hi Folks, The Workhouse Arts Center is very excited to offer the Earth and Fire Symposium this Fall on Oct. 10-12, 2014. Below is a link to the Lecture/Demo schedule, press release and postcard for the event . This event will involve an exhibit of 35 ceramic artists from South East Asian countries( Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, etc.) and is on display through Oct. 19, 2014. The Symposium will involve lectures and demonstrations by 12 of the exhibiting artists on Oct. 10-12, 2014. We will also have a special guest speaker: Louis Katz- ceramic artist and educator. Hope to see you at the reception on Oct. 9, 2014 from 6pm-9pm and Symposium on Oct. 10-12, 2014. Please feel free to pass along or display in the studio.
