Went out at 5 am, and started cleaning my pig sty..oops studio. Going back for round two shortly. Have two 55 gallon drums worth of old glaze experiments, old boxes, and old clay bags. Time to start fresh.

I am finishing chapter 3 on my clay formulation book. Each chapter is running about 4000 words each. I think it will take almost 9-10 chapters to throughly explain the clay codes. Wonder how many could sit through that many chapters on clay?

I love reference books. I own 1 fiction book and like 500 reference books. So I could sit through it. = ) But I am probably your direct target market.

I am going to include chapters on diagnosing clay problems. Which will also include a section on analyzing clay specs.trying to assemble an index on all available ball & kaolin clay- some mines do not have much data.

So far I am really liking 75-104 utility porcelain. I formulated it to a specific set of limits in lieu of clay varieties. I can nearly pull up a bowl almost perfectly on the first pull. I pulled up a 4" x 10" cylinder with only one pound of clay. Think I will pug out 25 lbs here shortly, interesting properties indeed.

I will be sending out a few trial samples in another two months or so. Currently running shrinkage and absorption tests. Shrinkage at bone dry green ware was only 3 percent.

I am reading a book on clay body formulation from 1959: and the information is relatively the same as in 2017. Why does this bother me?

Maybe (just maybe) I have found the magic bulltet: 3 days after throwing, my porcelain test body still had enough moisture left to trim easily.

Ordered 50lbs of commercial grade-refined hectorite today. This is calcium based in lieu of sodium based. According to specs it should be similar to V-gum T: this should be interesting.
