While in DC recently I was able to spend a few hours at the Freer/Shackler Museum of Asian Art. The exhibit "Chigusa and the Art of Tea" is worth a look. It is a small exhibit but informative. The Freer is a wonderful treasure in the capital. The permanent collections are eye candy.

Mixed up my first glazes tonight! Of course, I flubbed up the first one by not re-reading the advice I was given and starting with too much water. So that will have to evaporate. Oh well, at least I learned something!

I was concerned that there may be soluble components dissolved in the water that would change the glaze chemistry if I bailed it. Guess I should study the formula to see if that's even possible, eh?

I just looked at the list - it's all clays, stone, and oxides. I think I'm good. Thanks!

After 16 years with my bailey wheel, I replaced the potentiometer in the foot pedal. It is running and stopping just fine. The problem was that all of a sudden it would lurch when I turned on the motor. It is now fine.

no. I called bailey, described the problem and they sent me the parts. Disassemmbled the foot pedal, cut the solder ed wire off the old potentiometer, rewired the new one and put the pedal back together. They sent a three page instruction with all the info about the pedal. easy to do.

Was asked today by a Clay Club newbie how many years I'd been working with pottery, and then shocked her by saying "since September". Made me feel pretty good! It led to a good conversation about practice frequency, goals, and research.

Chris told me to dampen a paper towel and wrap them in plastic. It works like a charm

I used damp paper towels overnight, and it did help. They were still flaky and weird, though! But I didn't seriously ruin any, so I'm happy. 5 dinner plates and a slightly wonky pie dish to be bisqued this weekend :)

Hummph. Wasn't piriformis in spasm. It was all of lower back, particulary right-hand-side. Banned from kick-wheel. Banned from sitting still for longer than 20 minutes. Good job I can hand-build standing up.

My! Have you seen Big Lou's response to how do you sit at the wheel.
Just spent most ofthe day throwing, took Neil's advice and thre for a shorter time broken by periods of other work.
BAck ok tonight, but I also have a daily yoga practice which saves me from myself.
Good luck with your recovery.. does biking count as sitting?

After a year of procrastinating, I finally printed my first batch of HP LaserJet decals, got them on test pots over the weekend, and am firing them today. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Once you check your results and are happy with them, maybe you will share your source for the decal paper.
