Last pottery class this week, got my raku back, meh. Folks felt such a connection someone suggested we meet again next wk to pick up and glaze our final works outside of class time. I have some stoneware left to glaze. Maybe I'll finally make/get a successful mug with my own hands.

First throwing class, saved nothing til the last construction week-9 pots. Mugs, still have the first in parents home-terrible reminder of wonderful first days on the wheel, Look at it and remember fondly even though the pot is for crap.

I still have all my wheel thrown wares, from my first Ceramics class. The bowls aren't too bad, the mugs on the other hand... As my instructor noted on one of them, "Well, that's insulated!"

I am reading a book on clay body formulation from 1959: and the information is relatively the same as in 2017. Why does this bother me?

You know what I got a gift a couple years ago? A ceramic knife. Now it's my favorite kitchen knife, lightweight and super sharp, never needs sharpening. I'd call that an advancement for ceramics. Not applicable to pottery making, but the ceramic engineers are busy.

Callie, in 1933 a potter wrote a small 2 paragraph article for the American Ceramic Society suggesting that SAS formulation would be more fitting for clay. The only reference I have found in many years of looking. Seeing as though I have crossed into the obsessive realm about clay: perhaps going to my corner might be better.

Feel like I am right at the threshold of formulating an entirely new brand of clay. My wheels have been turning for sometime about this.

Not had any time to run any new tests. Just old bisque pots from my studio and same with the glaze. My matte white came out pretty clear which was interesting.

Going to a woodfire for ceramics today. Its a 90 minute drive each way. I have no idea what to expect except that it should be educational.

Very worthwhile even though they won't open it until Saturday because of everyone's work schedule.

Best thing is there were 4 college professors that teach ceramics and one that has a Adult Ed class that is 30 minutes away from me. I'm waiting to hear back if there will be a summer offering or if I have to wait until the fall.

Spent way too long in pottery lab decorating and attaching handles. Went in bright-eyed, left grumpy and tired. They better not be garbage when they come out!

Posted answers to Potters Quiz of the week 3, Sorry I was late, but yesterday was tiring with lots of driving and a 3am turn off of the glaze firing. At least it got me out of the house until today-no peeking.

Ever drank an underglaze-filled water mistaking it for fruit punch? I have.

My best was a cup of water which I was using to put my wax brush in. My mouth was filmy for a while.

I don't drink or eat anything in the studio, unless I am just reading or watching a kiln.

Just received book, "Ceramics: A World Guide to Traditional Techniques by Bryan Sentence. My initial 5 minutes of looking thru it is positive! Seems like more wheel throw pottery than coiled but that's fine. Its not real in depth cause it covers a lot. I give it two opposable thumbs up! :)

(*rewrite) -3rd pottery class last night. None of my work worth mentioning had been bisqued so I sat out the stoneware glazing to practice on the wheel. Bummer. Going back in to make some handles today.

3rd pottery class last night. To my disappointment none of my greenware had been glazed so I sat out the glazing demonstrations at the wheel practicing cylinders. Going back in to put handles on them today.

I bet it feels good in your hand. I am in Cottonwood, AZ right now. Is this near the red rock area you were firing at?
