Had a great time with my old friend and new friend from the forum at Home Slice Pizza. Talked raku and went to look at Terrim8's beautiful raku pots from France and her recents tests. Fun evening in Austin.

Thank you both. I enjoy playing with seaweed, copper wool, and chips of hard wood in with the sawdust.

Second single firing! Not bad, not bad at all - apart from some warpy bowls but hey it's only throwing technique.

Another 100° day. Firings kilns in the basement. Window unit A/C working hard. Trying to remind myself that this is better than shoveling 2 ft of snow.

San Diego, CA. median temp 76F, wish I lived there. It is the high 90's with 50%+ humidity. Go out to the studio around 9pm.

Hey we had a cool front move in today. It's 90 and humid, my husband and I spent the day grouting a mural I installed last week. I think I must be nuts, my studio is air conditioned but I have been working outside the last two weeks.

Looking at 105-108 for the next couple of days in Citrus Hts, CA. My wife's rooster wakes me at around 5:15 AM to remind me that it's a good time to get out and do stuff while the morning temps are in the 60s. Just have to go to bed early after cooling off in the pool.

fired my new raku kiln today for Obvara. whew, took it slow to 1650 and then started pulling the pieces. I usually have help for the lid on and off. Fired 13 pieces tumble stacked. I am beat. Dripping in this heat. drinking lots of water.

Monterrey, MX is 200 miles from my house in Brownsville Tx. I think it is more likely the chemicals from factories in Matamoros.

I think what JT said is right: you have a highly acid environment. Sulfur/ salt, and God knows what else. Time to move.

Glaze firing on - mostly transparent over oxides and tissue transfers with my v reliable glossy glaze. On the shelf is a batch of stoneware pieces from a throwing workshop I attended - after 2 failed stoneware glaze firings I'm very reluctant to get on with these. Have tweaked the glaze and will do just one test piece before sacrificingthe rest to the kiln gods

Will post pics in the morning when I unload.
That's a very good question Roberta - it crawled horribly on various pieces. I THINK I'd thinned it too much with water, when someone suggested it should be thin (after a precious disaster!). Now, I've drawn off the excess water and will be programming a slow cool. Problem is getting enough stoneware together to fill the kiln and having the right pieces for a different glaze to accompany my test piece.

That was - 'previous' disaster - though the work was of course 'precious' !!!!

Pictures in my gallery. Quite pleased - some glaze a bit thin and oxides on the pale side. I was trying not to overload either! Cobalt transfers on the creamers have run a little at this temp, so will fire lower next time. Full speed ahead for the rest of the wedding favours, now I know the glaze will work.

Current firing is white earthenware - didn't make that clear! I too am no lover of glazing - after various disasters!
