  1. Oh god! Please don't introduce that superstitious nonsense into this thread. Jim I was all screwed up on drugs and now I'm all screwed up on the lord.... or was it the other way around... har har... T
  2. I know of a researcher who was rushing to locate isolated potters in remote countries to learn from un-self-conscious makers before they discovered the world ... but that quest in itself rushed the process since someone from outside was now watching them. Once this happens, can you put the genie back in the bottle? Can the potter go back to not thinking about what he/she is doing? >You can’t try to do things. You simply must do things." Ray Bradbury" Now this part I agree with 100%. As Yoda says "No,try not. Do or do not. There is no try." Maybe the not thinking refers to what I experienced today in the studio. I am sculpting an octopus and I was getting really hung up on the tentacles. I think I was overthinking them. Finally in flustration I just grabbed some clay and started whacking it on and just "working" I can't explain it any other way but everything just came together. Or maybe my muse just finished her coffee break T
  3. Jim, have you been to Randel's restaurant in Lafayette? My very good friend was just there on business from the UK. Apparantly they have very good crawfish. Just thought you must be pretty near.... T
  4. ""Don’t think. Thinking is the enemy of creativity. It’s self-conscious, and anything self-conscious is lousy. You can’t try to do things. You simply must do things." Ray Bradbury"
  5. So, glaze runs off nail or glaze runs out of the container in so many seconds or glaze covers your hands like cream. Please explain, and thanks. It's very simple. After mixing and stirring and applying glazes by hand thousands of times, I can adjust a glaze just right for dipping or spraying by watching it slide off my hand. I think most potters can. For me, using a hydrometer would be like using a carefully calibrated onager to put a basketball through the hoop instead of just taking the shot. Jim ONAGER now thats a word....
  6. I generally mix large amounts of glaze, and my hydrometre is a 500 ml measuring cup with a hole in the bottom and a stop watch. Call me crazy..
  7. I am still willing to make the call..... T
  8. I am sorry this happened to you! Please phone them and tell them I think they are TURDS. If you want I can call..... T
  9. Actually, anything compares with something made by hand. Sometimes it is better and sometime it isn't. Jim sometimes i feel like a nut and sometimes i don't. T
  10. Hi there, I have found the problem with trying to correct ready mixed glazes it that you don't really know what is in them to start with. That makes correcting hard. Try the silica, but you might be better off testing some completely new glazes. When I was forced to change clay bodies when my supplier went out of business, i had the same problem and still have about 40kgs dry transparent that will stay like it is until i get a body to fit it. That seems way easier to me. T
  11. I agree. If your product isn't moving and your gallery / outlet hasn't contacted you or tried to work with you, it shows that they also don't know how to run a business well. It works both ways, retail space costs and if they aren't promoting you , they aren't promoting themselves properly, move on. T
  12. yes but do you like zombies and time travel.....

  13. I think you just answered the question for yourself. T
  14. why can't I get the tune 'It's a small world' out of my head....
  15. Sorry but he makes me lose the will to live.....
  16. Normally tangines don't have holes in the top and the cone lid is slightly smaller than the base so that the liquid can seep out and seal the lid to the base. other than that I have no idea....T
  17. Now that's the funniest thing I've read all morning. What a profiile picture, OffCenter. I wouldn't want to meet you in a dark alley either! Marcia H. In spite of the fact that we all know these pictures bear no resemblance to their owner, they do shape our view of that person. ( yes, I am a psychologist by training) well that is a relief, as yours looks kinda god like......
