Accident on the home rebuild? Hope your doing better.

Accident in 2001 coming back to haunt me. Impact tore my pancreas and spleen, among other things. This too will pass.

  2. Got to spend a couple of hours picking the brain of a local glass artist. Gathering info on fusing glass onto fired porcelain pieces.Perhaps late this spring I will make my first attempts.

  3. Have 3 cone 04 experimental colored porcelain cooking, pictures later tomorrow.

Joseph, got so involved in developing the clay, sorta forgot the glaze.

  4. Have a poundeach of macaloid and VeeGum-T coming. Test these for now and figure out a technical grade later.

  5. I am finishing chapter 3 on my clay formulation book. Each chapter is running about 4000 words each. I think it will take almost 9-10 chapters to throughly explain the clay codes. Wonder how many could sit through that many chapters on clay?

I love reference books. I own 1 fiction book and like 500 reference books. So I could sit through it. = ) But I am probably your direct target market.

I am going to include chapters on diagnosing clay problems. Which will also include a section on analyzing clay specs.trying to assemble an index on all available ball & kaolin clay- some mines do not have much data.

  6. I am off until Monday for Thanksgiving. Loaded my 16CF with all the thrown items to be bisq'ed. Threw the breaker- no power! Neighbors pole barn runs off my transformer, they shut it off this morning so he could unprade his power. It is raining, so I guess I will post in the forums all day!

Nice of them to tell you ;]

  7. I am reading a book on clay body formulation from 1959: and the information is relatively the same as in 2017. Why does this bother me?

Feel like I am right at the threshold of formulating an entirely new brand of clay. My wheels have been turning for sometime about this.

If it is porcelain that throws like stoneware count me in.

  8. I have been on the forum for roughly a month now. I must say it is an honor to see the works of so many talented and gifted people. The willingness to share knowledge and information is also commendable. Just thought it needed to be said.

I think pottery is an area where your vista is constantly expanding ... The more you learn, the less you know for sure. The narrower your focus, the wider your possibilities.

Getting away from clay is needful as well. The potter's passion for clay is a consuming fire at times. Gets really intense when you get on the path of a new glaze, form, or technique.

Thanks Tom, I've never put much effort into my glazes mostly going with what was available and trying to make it work, sometimes with success and sometimes not so much. I can do pretty much with the clay  as I wish I think, I'm a novice working with glaze chemistry and my experiments salvage jobs at best. Not that they don't work...the end result of the combination of glaze, and firings winds up being to complex to depend on. So the search for bright colors I like continues my last c6 celadon was disappointing , my own fault doing little bits here and there with ceramics I need to focus.

I'm in the north Nevada desert now finding everything but gold, tacks, bird shot, nails, bullets...did I say bullets lots of bullets and shells, tiny tiny bits of rust up to big old pieces of tin...spent the better part of today finding and replacing one of my tires that turned into something resembling a birds nest, the Nevada desert hates tires you see their shredded remains everywhere out here.

  11. I mixed 10lbs of Coma Clay, bisq yesterday. Pull them out of the kiln, slather some glaze on them, fire em up. First time to seriously test crystal results.

  13. I spend my mornings drinking coffee and going through the gallery postings. I encourage all members to check out recent postings. The recent work posted by Pugaboo, Giselle, Joseph, 1515Art, and others is really impressive.

  15. I thought Community Challenge #5 would be a cake walk because I am a tile guy. After seeing just a few posts, I am getting very very nervous. Forgot how talented the people are in here. Do judges take bribes?

  17. It was a delight touring your gallery, not only artistic, but exceptional execution of the craft. Most impressive!! Bravo!!

  18. Just read the most directly applicable journal of clay platelet charges in relation to surface area: filled in the remaining blanks I had. I am a happy man.

Always thought porcelain was like throwing butter, but cream cheese works too!

  20. Leaving for KC in about 2 hours to meet up with Ron Roy tomorrow. I will back in KC on Thursday or Friday. See you there!

  22. Looks like I have a causalty of war in the studio. Went out early to shut down the two test kilns: one was frozen in "8888" LED status. Lightning came through at 4am/: think it is fried.

The invasion has begun. Better put on the aluminum cones. LOL I hope you were able to get your kiln going again. Story weather is beautiful; if you don';t have to fire. ;)

I turn off the main panel breaker, and individual breakers when I know they are coming through. This one got be my however...

  23. Made a slip from my new clay formula and cast my 12 x16 arched tile mold yesterday. Popped it out of the mold and hour later and it is still perfectly flat this afternoon. First time that has happened.

looks like you may be onto something!

  24. Maybe (just maybe) I have found the magic bulltet: 3 days after throwing, my porcelain test body still had enough moisture left to trim easily.

thats even more impressive since CC usually dries clay faster because it removes humidity.

  25. Mothers Day: A good mom will let her kids eat batter off the beaters: a great mom will turn it off first.
