Last Glaze day of the year for me on Monday-sale is going strong now at my pottery booth-I'm closing two days to glaze and fire-also I do not want to go 18 days this year selling only 15 maximum selling days from now on.

raku'd all morning & then I get into the kitchen tonight and burn my hand from the steam of a microwave dinner. Looks like I should have kept the raku gloves on.

Hi-I can't lift & carry much over 20 lbs. myself. When 50 lbs+ of clay shows up at my front door, I have to get it from the ground up the steps, up over a deep door lip, into the house, through the house, down steps, down another door drop of 3-4", and onto a back porch. I bought a wheeled dolly-type gizmo called an UpCart---it smoothly goes up and down STAIRS! Rolls on specially configured wheels--worth every penny, and it folds down flat and short.

Starting to read thru the gerstley borate substitute items on the forum. Has anyone tried Tom Buck's dry mix substitute? Or do you think its less problematic to just go with Gillespie Borate?

I am thrilled that I will have a worker bee coming next week to assist me with bringing my backlogged inventory current. I have forced myself stop making anything more until I get this done and all my remaining smalls are coded for the web & stored in labeled drawers for easy access. Then I can get on with making some samples for a local shop keeper who is interested in a particular line.

How is everyone? It has been a while. Just wanted to check in and say I love and miss you all! Fired my kiln today. First time in 8 months I have even touched a pot. Made me realize how much I miss this community. Hope everyone's pots are great and their glazes are perfection!

Finally, going to take the plunge and buy my first kiln. I am feeling a little scared....I have some experience firing someone else's kiln...but it has been a few years.
My space in the basement is all wired, got a great vent area....the house had an old oil furnace removed 30- 30 years ago, but the chimney still has the vent and the opening is close to where the kiln is going.

Finished COE graphs, alumina to CEC comparison charts. Okay, so I lead a boring life! It is what we Nerds do.

Interesting thought, but sodium, potassium and calcium all exchange at different rates. I do think you could work a loose table off of spars. I have enough data tables, might run that over the winter. My next article is due out in August? I think. The one after that will make your lights go on. <teaser ad>
