but on our last day of -20 I tried out the wood skis and they're fast! I had to re-camber them with a clothes steamer and wooden blocks, get pine tar on them then polar kick wax as glide wax! So different that modern xc skis!!!

looks like you've been part of our deep freeze! I'm going to try out some wood xc skis this weekend as it is warming up to -20 on Saturday! (wood skis are supposed to be good for -20 or below) Warms up too much after that.

Been working on color development using soluble salts preparing several articles for publication.

drying a large slip cast item - still in the plaster form- is it better to leave it upside down to drop out or will it dry faster right side up?

with the next try- decided to start again- back to the model to remove any imperfections so it will be totally smooth & then I'll insure its a smooth one-shot pour for the plaster.

It seems to dry/absorb so slow- its still in there! It was the right SG too so I'll keep it right side up . I may have complicated it all by having a paper-plaster mix behind the solid wall.

I burnt hand in the kitchen again! I'm getting a set of protective raku style gear for the kitchen

I am finally back in the studio, hand- building. It is 23 degrees and I am snowed in. I won't get back to the wheel until spring.

I store it in the house. Using three heaters in the basement this morning. I will only run out to the shed if I forgot a tool or something.

Looks like you're getting hit again? Guess they had snow in Maui too (at elevation - I know Mauna Kea usually has a white top) It's going up to -11 today
so I can get some raku work done!!!

same here but thinking about moving my wheel back into the basement today from its outdoor shed- not even my little gas heater can keep up to this cold!

The challenge to Self these days is my old nemesis--lack of patience. So, to push myself into either a state of growing frustration or a state of growing acceptance, I am making myself replay old scenes in the hidden objects game June's Journey. That is a game that requires mega patience, on steroids. Why? you ask. Because I let myself actually run out of clay--all three of my main types. I ordered some, and they are out of the one I need the most and need the fastest! Go figure. Another lesson in patience, coming right up. (Yeah, they are getting in it and shipping it soon.)

and we were basking in chinooks. Seems to be a thing right across the country- making fun of the poor ________ with the cold weather....like Winterpeg.

raku'd all morning & then I get into the kitchen tonight and burn my hand from the steam of a microwave dinner. Looks like I should have kept the raku gloves on.

Over this past weekend I had a conversation with a woman who’s dad has mild dementia. It was at a sale I was doing and she literally jumped when she saw my porcelain polar bears. They are just little standing bears, nothing spectacular. She told me her dad and her have gone on yearly vacations since her mum passed away a few years back. In the spring she is taking him to the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat where they care for orphaned or injured bears. She said he has always loved polar bears but with his dementia his memory is slipping so she bought him a bear to put beside his bed to remind him of the trip they will be taking. Thought it was really touching and appreciated that she took the time to tell me the story even though it made her cry.
