  1. Made it another year......now, into the bleak midwinter--oh, relax, it's  just a song, not a prediction.  :) Hope everyone has a good one!

All the best to you and yours Lee!

  2. Pleased with myself--had a good time peddling my wares at the First Friday Art Walk, Portland, Maine, a sidewalk event held on the main drag near the fine art museum.   No registration fee, no tent required, close-in parking, & I had a helper!

I am happy you had a good day,  you deserve a rest.   Denice

Way to go, Lee! Any day you can sell a piece of  your work is a good day, especially when there's no overhead and a lot of exposure :)

  3. I posted my copper tape results in Clay & Glaze Chemistry (search metal tape).

  4. Holy cannoli----my Termal-lites, which I have waited for 6 months to come from Germany, are now at Bailey's!

@oldlady  Thermal-Lite Advanced Formula Nitride-Bonded Silicon Carbide shelves  ---and trust me, if you can afford them, you want them!!!!! :)

  5. Need fast input on a shelves purchase please-in Equip/Repair now. Thx.

  6. Well,  hot diggity dog--I have received an invite from the Ceramics Art Network's magazine, Ceramics Monthly, to write a short article w/pics for the Quick Tip series. It will be about my simple "works for me" inventory/storage system.

  7. I like the "banner" up top--the graphic affect & pallet is kinda "soothing" and intriguing simultaneously-nice vibe.

I don't know where my pottery endeavors will lead me. but I wont be measuring to a sixteenth of an inch and it won't be square!

      :P

  8. Lee is feeling rejuvenated----freakin' about time!! When the art center w/the anagama kiln suddenly closed, it  threw me for a loop--didn't see quite how much until I realized I was doing much of nothing!

  9. Very jazzed!! I just received  an invitation to participate in a raku firing this spring. I am going to focus  on  vase-like forms (not for water-dry only).   :)

Way to go Lee! By then I should have my testing done on sealants for the interior of raku pots and vases. I'm going to be trying rubber based materials like clear FlexSeal to see if I can waterproof my horsehair and other raku pieces...

Definitely interested in the results of the sealant.

  10. Got an invite to have a booth at a "handmade only" craft fair--may do it, since it is small and local.

Way to go, Lee...I am guessing that the invite is recognition of your skills and quality of your products!

Nah--more likely a need for more paying customers to occupy spaces .

  11. Yay---my slab roller handle was not functioning and I was stymied on how to fix it. It was getting me down, really! A friend came by and within 3 minutes had it working again.  Something about using the Allen wrench in the right place!

    1. oldlady

      oldlady

      that would definitely help!

  12. Congrats on the new studio build--looks so exciting..and BIG!!!  Looks like Dog approves, as well.

Oh mosa has found herself numerous spots which she calls her own. Really if I could just take all my noisy, dusty work outside that would be much better for her!

The studio is good sized! 3456 total square feet including a covered parking space for big sprinter van, dedicated packing/receiving/finished goods room, kitchen, bath, woodshop, kiln room, glazing room, spray booth room, main working area, and an office.

Dream building! Beautiful views.  And that dog looks to be one of life's greatest treasures.

  13. Happy Joyous and Free, and celebrating Independence Day! I put some pics in the LeeU Anagama Fire album in the gallery.

  14. This potter is not active on the forums anymore, but maybe if you message a moderator maybe they can put you in touch. She went by "The Guinea Potter" but I think her name is Sarah. Try contacting Pres.

  15. Just a thank you to whoever mentioned American Science &  Surplus as a source for many cool & useful gizmos for ceramics--maybe Pres?--anyway,  got this great little manual spinner whisk to bring my glazes & wax back to life!!  Finds like this really make my day. ..no excuse now to not keep glazing the current batch!

Is that a N.H. Yeehaw or a Texas Yeehaw? Trying to gauge your enthusiasm.

Pilfered from my sister.  She says it all the time. We are fom New Jersey -both of us lived for years in NYC--both moved to Virginia at different times (survival-long story) and while she is still there, I am in NH. So, long story long, I have no clue where she got it from. If you catch me saying Howdy, I pilfered that one from my daughter. No connections to Texas. High enthusiam--breaking out of a bad spell...and...just cracked the lid and all is right with the world (tho it's mostly  only a bisque). :P

Way to go, Lee! I could have said the same thing Monday, but I opened the kiln and now all 46 pots, bowls etc. are back on the workbench awaiting their destiny...;)

  17. Man in checkered shirt looking at one of MY bowls (shelf right) at the reception for the NHPG Once Upon the Earth exhibit. The photo is manipulated for a retro look. I was glad I went-I usually don't...just not my thing, but it was fun to watch people cruising my stuff.

I think it is great that you went.

This way you can see very concretely whose day you made richer because you shared your work.

  18. I posted an announcement for the NH Potters Guild exhibition for March in the Events of Interest forum.  I have two pieces on display.  Both bowls are pushing 2 lbs and are roughly in the 7" x 2" range.  Stoneware (stamped) and porcelain (incised).

  19. The challenge to Self these days is my old nemesis--lack of patience. So, to push myself into either a state of growing frustration or a state of growing acceptance, I am making myself replay old scenes in the hidden objects game June's Journey. That is a game that requires mega patience, on steroids. Why? you ask. Because I let myself actually run out of clay--all three of my main types. I ordered some, and they are out of the one I need the most and need the fastest! Go figure.   Another lesson in patience, coming right up. (Yeah, they are getting in it and shipping it soon.)

I bought clay a couple of days ago,  I thought I was out.  I looked at the companies web site and it wasn't listed,  freaked me out.   I had tried several clays  for throwing and this one worked the best for me. Turned out they had a new website and the web designer didn't include it.    When I was making space for the clay I found two bags that were covered with mold,  I bought it around Christmas.  Never had clay mold this fast,  using it first.   Denice

      JohnnyK

I heard from a pro potter that, like bleu cheese, mold in clay is good...

    4. Denice

      Denice

That is what it looks like, it is suppose to throw better.   I remember potters putting beer in when they were mixing clay they thought it would mold faster.   Denice

  20. Happy with my shift in direction-or attitude- take your pick. I'm  becoming more process oriented (re:  formation of clay objects) in a primal kind of way.

Wonderful. I enjoy looking at your one-of-a-kind pieces.

  21. Oh well...I submitted two of my "Hidden Masks" (that reference domestic violence and suicide)  for a juried exhibit,  but got notice I was not accepted. Phooey. ..maybe shoulda gone with the bowls!

Getting ready to submit to a small show as well.  A person just never knows.

I think an artist needs sometimes to do this, make the courageous submission rather than playing it safe. A different venue might have taken them.

Your mask series is important: do not let it take a back seat to popularity.

  22. Finished my 2019 detail budget and I can retain my helper who keeps me current with inventory/spreadsheets/photos. Yay me! (Of course I haven't been to a movie in 2 years, don't have TV and almost never buy clothes, but, hey, well worth it! ) Now I'm setting up my 'to do' calendar-hope I can stick to it this year.

good for you!   if you really need some clothes, the thrift shops around here put everything in the store on sale for 50 percent off each monday.   when the original price for jeans is $5.99, you can see why i have a pile of them.   got a cashmere sweater for $5.00 last week.

  23. Happy happy. Got the last of my backlogged stock inventoried and properly stored (means I can find it easily).  Only 6 months past my intended time frame-oh well, forward movement is forward movement and I'm not in a race, so I'll take it and just say thank you.

  24. Got half a kiln load. "Time to make the  donuts!" (I wonder how many members are too young to remember that fun commercial?)

Never heard of it... I do remember "where's the beef" though.

edit: I looked up the donuts commercial, don't think it aired in Canada because I'm definitely old enough to remember it if it did.

Time to get back to glazing donuts :)

  25. Hi-I can't lift & carry much over 20 lbs. myself. When 50 lbs+ of clay shows up at my front door, I have to get it from the ground up the steps, up over a deep door lip, into the house, through the house, down steps, down another door drop of 3-4", and onto a back porch.  I bought a wheeled dolly-type gizmo called an UpCart---it smoothly goes up and down STAIRS! Rolls on specially configured  wheels--worth every penny, and it folds down flat and short.

Seems to be going around. Had a little accident earlier this year: can't lift more than 20-25lbs with my left arm without it going numb. Have not thrown anything since March. Hopefully it will heal up soon...by you have my empathy.
