Hi Jay, if you post your question in the Clay and Glaze Chemistry section you are likely to get more responses than here in the Status Updates.

The latest synthesis from two of my significant influences, UK slipware potter, Doug Fitch, and Stockton artist, Joel Blum (http://fetishghost.com/).  The mug is a wheel thrown cone 6 buff stoneware with appliqué decoration ah al Doug Fitch, and amber and white liner glazes from Joel Blum’s website.  Cheers!

The amber is a lot of fun and I really like it on a lot of my work, but it doesn't have the "look", e.g.,  the "deep" glossy surface, of the old lead based honey yellow glazes that  Mary Wondrausch and other slipware masters work had.  My plan  is to  find one or two other good candidate base glazes, test them against two base glazes I already use and know well, and  see which one gets me the closest to that lead fluxed honey yellow the slipware masters used.

You are right about needing to brushing slip around the sprigs and appliqué... thanks!
