  5. For small quantities of glazes, what ratio of water to dry glaze do I use?

Every glaze is different Iusually test In 2000 gm dry wright batches. I'll add that to 1500 gms /ml of water.. Stir may need to add more to get well mixed. I then slake over night or longer and more water if necessary, strain then check again. Key here is to slowly work up up to consistency.

  7. Made a 137 # batch of clay today.......I wore a t least a pound. My rope handled bucket wasn't big enough......

  8. Dipped my toe in the ocean of glaze making …. the knowledge is so vast and intimidating.

  9. I'm kinda peeved that this new job I took has been wiping me out so bad. My practicing and production (and thus, progress) have gone straight down the tubes as I come home from work sore and exhausted :/ Thank goodness it's only part time - I think I'd die if it was full time. *slump*

  10. Now the elements have been replaced in the community centre's kiln, it's overfiring. Grrrr. ^7 cone touching the floor for a ^6 firing.

  11. Spent yesterday cleaning pugmill so that afriend can use it .. now it's so clean, well almost, feel it should be left that way as I won't be using it for a time and can't keep the clay left in pug wet. However it has been character building,.. Maybe I'll offer to wedge the clay instead..

  12. I wish something that I love would come out of the kiln. But I think the "jinx" is taking photos of work before it goes in for bisque firing! Everything I show off doesn't make it! The stuff I don't photograph is FINE! So weird!

It's the camera, when you take a picture it steals it's soul. You have to have camera spiritually cleansed. ( something with monks, medicine man, chanting, burning sage, throwing salt...Then after cleansing ask the pot if you can photograph it.

  13. After 16 years with my bailey wheel, I replaced the potentiometer in the foot pedal. It is running and stopping just fine. The problem was that all of a sudden it would lurch when I turned on the motor. It is now fine.

  14. Frustrated was unable to trim yesterday's practice. I need to remind myself porcelain is quirky. I you can't rush poreclain. It took substandard trimming on a few pieces before I realized. Then it took me way to long to switch gears and be productive. :(

I'll need a truck to move it. Not only is it large but I'm sure it's heavy

  18. Back from NC, great conference considering everything. Looks like next year they are going to have 3 Japanese potters from Japan, and a tea master for an authentic tea ceremony. I can't remember the names, but it sounded like they should be pretty reputable. John you may know them if I could remember names. Very tired after the long drive.

  19. Feels good to be back in the studio without the need for long underwear...yeah, I know, TMI :)
