Will be out for a while . . . pre bowling for Fri. league. I have to check on time for ICAN board meeting on Wednesday, just remembered. Will let you know.
-
Do you have a cell phone? Russel may need to register Wed morning before we go get the car.

They accepted our offer on the red Lodge house so we're moving' back to Montana! So excited. We'll probably begin the move with studio equipment and then start showing our house. Should be moving by the Spring.YAY!

I remember Billings, had brakes go out coming over the "Going to the Sun" road. Nice burg.
-
Maybe you mean bear tooth highway. Going to the Sun is in Glacier closed to Missoula or Whitefish.
-
they are all nice.

slow day on the forum. Guess people are going on holiday.

-
welp. did my grilling for the holiday. yum yum.
-
Went shopping today and I felt like I was grilled. If you like grilling and being grilled approximately 8 to 10 months a years, then South Texas is the place to be. It doesn't get cold for long here.
-
I think our last frost lasted 3-4 hours.-several years ago.
-
sleet , high winds and snow last night. Rain this afternoon and then more snow tomorrow. Planning to fire obvara on Tuesday.

The fires raging in OK are signs of the draught. We are expecting more snow later this week. I am going to fire saggars all day while I can. The last snowfall missed us yesterday but dropped 10" on Great falls to the north.

wow- haven't heard anything about that up here! Forest fires kind of spoiled our summer here last year (for hiking in the mountains & general air quality)
-
We have tried to vacation in Colorado for several years, but have gone to other areas. Colorado has been plagued with fires, rain and mudslides. This fall we are heading to Yellowstone! Denice
-
Concrete slab getting poured on Monday. Walls will follow shortly. This will be my new kiln shed for year-round firing ability ...as long as I can shovel my way out there!

That's awesome Marcia!
In regards to the snowy walkway, just have a dedicate snowblower ready at the beginning of the path, and you can just easily clear the way, as you walk to the shed.
No need to pull a muscle, or tire yourself out, before you even start working.
-
finally got an electric I can carry thru the house from back to front. ..after losing 20 pounds from shoveling. We had 200% normal snowfall last winter beginning with 22" in Sept.
-
I do not envy those, in the Northern US, and obviously places North of that.
We get a decent amount of snow here, but nothing like that. I got my current snow blower at the end of a record setting Winter, in terms of snowfall.
So I did my driveway, by hand all season, then got the snow blower. We haven't had a season like that since...
-
been in bed with a flu since I got back.

No. I even mentioned that in another post that a Mem. Day weekend was coming .
-
but when they post the site for the trip to Tuscany V we can just post our pictures in the text.

I hope they can post photos from Ireland I always wanted to see a leprechaun throwing pots

even with the air conditioner on in my studio, the sweat was running into my eyes. Finished trimming and went into the house.

Marcia and Mark are in Texas, which is literally the frying pan of the USA. I would pretty much die if I lived there, haha! Their summers are routinely 40-45c every year. It's sadly getting that way here in eastern Washington state, too... blech!
-
we had a frost once for 4 hours in the ten years we've been here.
-
We have an excessive heat warning here for the next 2 days. Fortunately my place stays cool. Have you considered adding a swamp cooler? My family uses those in airplane hangers and they work great.
-
I 'have new favorite throwing clay..nara 5. I'll have see will fire well alternative firing techniques as well as with glazes. loved working with this weekend.'.

Can we buy this too in Europe? What would be an equivalent?
-
I can't say Evelyne. I notice that each porcelain has its own response to crackling surfaces. You'd have to experiment.
-
Marcia, have you thrown some of your large forms with the Nara5?
-
leaving tomorrow at 5 am to check out a potential retirement home in Montana for my husband and me. Studio space, kiln space and mountains! My friends have me covered for p/u at airport, drive to town, stay with friends. I love Montana!

It is too hot here. Can't function in this extreme heat. Nothing like a blast of cold to invigorate!
-
I just did the math and Billings is almost 1300,00 miles from me about the same as Tempe AZ .Its just a long ways-I always thought about a summer art show there
-
What? And give up all this South Texas weather.

Getting into the Red Lodge pace of living. Library book sale today. Recycling open Wed. and Sat. $10 bag of select produce or $20 bag of select meat during the first week of the month. Yeah, it's about -5F here, too. Killing my arthritis, man. I need to move in with Mark, haha! 80s in January? Yes, please!!
-
If it 80 now whats the summer temps?
-
that's why I left and I was 120 miles South of Marko. They report the "weather" plus the muggy meter rating.
-
three spams today. It is easy enough to report to the moderators. just hit the report button in lower right hand corner of the post.

I'm with Bruce, hilarity of the broken grammar aside, some type of waiting period, or something of the like, would help with the SPAM.

So far the spam seems pointless but not offensive. Providing it doesn't become offensive I think there's no need to go to the expense and time to make changes

Great bird watching in the back yard: Osprey, Anhinga, Egrets, three types of heron, Rosiette Spoonbill, and Ibis, Green-winged Teals, Coots, Cormorants. All this is very distracting but exciting to watch.

Looks super cold up north, below 0 numbers for the upper states. Too cold for me. I am fleeing Georgia and moving further south to Florida at the first chance I get. I can't stand freezing cold. I couldn't imagine being up north.
-
I've been feeding the birds and getting mostly house sparrows, about 20-50 a day. Also some green jay, cardinals, kisskadees, golden fronted woodpeckers, grackles, morning doves, titmouse. Hoping for some, hummingbirds, warblers and finch soon. I bet you get a lot of Caracara down in your next of south Texas Marcia.
-
Pea green with envy, Marcia! But, spring will be here before I know it. For the moment, I'm perfectly content with my little flock of chickens. <3
-
I mixed clay today! Picked up dry clays about 11, did errands, and started mixing about 1 pm while the sun was warm . Cold front is coming in tonight. Beat it! So happy. Mixed about 270 pounds wet. That should be a good start. This batch is for making new saggers. I didn't bring many with me. My birthday is Wed. so I can celebrate by doing some throwing. Kilns will be getting wired in Mid- February.

Dogs sorta become your kids after awhile. And like kinds, very hard to watch them suffering.

very hard and feeling helpless. Nitroglycerine seems to help during his worst moments at night. sitting out in the fresh mountain air and sunshine seems to help him the most.

Were Airstreams built in Kansas? What's the connection b/n clay conferences and trailers? I lived in an Airstream in 1960 for à couple of years!!! I guess they'd make a nice pottery studio!
-
I know one is a pottery/art filled one-maybe they need two now?
-
That is the one!

I re-fired slightly less than golden brown cranberry orange nut bread. Then I made pecan bars like my grandmother's..Fun to taste a childhood memory. Sort of a pecan laden toffee on a crumbly crust.
-
What cone did you refire the cranberry nut bread to?
-
350F eating some right now!
Must go trim my saggers that I threw yesterday. Just finished shoveling snow off the walks.

I've never fired in that cold, nor do I want to. I'd go with too hot though. You don't have to dress in layers.

Great colors though.
