  1. I met him at the Majolica conference in Toronto in '98 at the Gardner Museum . I have always admired his work. Glad he is still among us (on earth). Great article and really wonderful examples of his work. Thanks for posting. Every time I see an older potter's name in the subject, I brace myself for an obit. Its an age thing, I know. I have lost quite a few older friends. Marcia
  2. Creating A Workshop

Hi Chad, Your website is mentioned in the Revistas Ceramicas article about my work in Obvara. Good luck with your workshop. Marcia
  3. Carving into clay

I have a sweet little set of carving tools about 4 inches long- various shaping chisels. I work when leather hard. To avoid flaking, spray a little water on the immediate area. Just enough to rehydrate. Carving can be tedious, but very absorbing and rewarding by the results. Enjoy. Marcia
  4. I am a happy old person. Never put it in those terms but I like them. Define elderly.. not sure I'm there yet. Marcia
  5. on standby to quickly fire some saggers tomorrow weather permitting. Too cold today. Snowed last night.

  6. it depends on your body. I made my throwing seat with a slanted seat to reduce stress on the lumbar.I like it. If you don't have an adjustable wheel , you can put it in brick or something to get it right for you or raise/lower your seat. I like the angled seat idea and I think it works.I copied the benches Pietro Madelena designed for La Meridiana. ,. will try to post a pic of my bench to show the slant. Marcia
  7. Good list, Chris. I like #1 and #4 too. What they mean to me: #1 to achieve making something that really satisfies what I intended and beyond #4 the learning curve is forever there. Gaining insight makes the journey continue.
  8. I have done that before. It is refreshing and empowering to rid yourself of things no longer relevant. I did that with some art based on the anguish of a divorce. Felt much better after the garbage truck hauled it off. 30 years ago. Marcia
  9. Busy week for the written wo

they are the featured artists, not the authors. It is amazing that all this happened in the last few days.
  10. Busy week for the written wo

just got another friend today with an article about her in Neue Ceramics, Corrie Bain. She is Scottish grew up in Greece in her father's pottery studio, educated in Scotland, apprenticed in Korea, worked in Germany and now teaches in Spain.I am working on an article about her as we speak. I am starting to feel like Forrest Gump of the ceramic magazine world. Thanks Pres and Mark. MarciaC
