  1. I am a happy old person. Never put it in those terms but I like them. Define elderly.. not sure I'm there yet. Marcia
  2. on standby to quickly fire some saggers tomorrow weather permitting. Too cold today. Snowed last night.

  3. it depends on your body. I made my throwing seat with a slanted seat to reduce stress on the lumbar.I like it. If you don't have an adjustable wheel , you can put it in brick or something to get it right for you or raise/lower your seat. I like the angled seat idea and I think it works.I copied the benches Pietro Madelena designed for La Meridiana. ,. will try to post a pic of my bench to show the slant. Marcia
  4. Good list, Chris. I like #1 and #4 too. What they mean to me: #1 to achieve making something that really satisfies what I intended and beyond #4 the learning curve is forever there. Gaining insight makes the journey continue.
  5. I have done that before. It is refreshing and empowering to rid yourself of things no longer relevant. I did that with some art based on the anguish of a divorce. Felt much better after the garbage truck hauled it off. 30 years ago. Marcia
  6. Busy week for the written wo

they are the featured artists, not the authors. It is amazing that all this happened in the last few days.
  7. Busy week for the written wo

just got another friend today with an article about her in Neue Ceramics, Corrie Bain. She is Scottish grew up in Greece in her father's pottery studio, educated in Scotland, apprenticed in Korea, worked in Germany and now teaches in Spain.I am working on an article about her as we speak. I am starting to feel like Forrest Gump of the ceramic magazine world. Thanks Pres and Mark. MarciaC

Cold and icy here, my husband and I are staying inside trying to survive the flu.  I even had the extra strong flu shot.  Bummer.   Denice

get better. I had it for 3 weeks about a week after I got the flu shot. Just in time for travel to Long Island for a wedding. and back to montana.

  9. During this past week myself and several friends have found ourselves in print. The sad one is a tribute to the life of Betty Woodman, My friend Shamai from Israel is in Neue Ceramics, Alvin from Korea is in Ceramic Arts and Perception. Clara has published the first Italian translation of Leach’s The Potters Books, I’m in the Spanish Revistas Ceramicas, and my Montana Friend, Sue Tirrell who made it onto the cover of Ceramics Monthly! What a week! I guess people are reading! Marcia
  10. I don't listen to music in my studio. I listened to some Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, Ian and Sylvia lately. (In my youth I worked at the Philadelphia Folk Festival.Heard many including Doc Watson, Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthry.) It began with one of my friends at our local open mic singing Joe Cocker's version of All Right.I googled some old songs and got ear worms. He wanted Matt to practice With a Little Help from My Friends but they didn't get to it. I think my girlfriends and I will need to get a backup group going for some of these songs. Winter in Red Lodge is community oriented. Tuesday night jam sessions. Monthly Forum discussions on provocative issues. It is a small town 2100. Kids ice skate at the park. Friends plow the driveways. We still have big piles of snow here. Temperatures were above freezing for a few days. A big Bull Moose was spotted over by the vet's clinic. Deer wander around the yards and even beg for food. Lots of turkeys too. Love living here. I didn't have a TV all year. We got our Apple TV operating -not in the studio- but I tried watching it tonight and turned it off. Feeling good about my work and the new year with focus. Will watch the last season of Longmire sometime this winter.
  11. Home alone again. Husband returned to Va. to work. He was telecommuting for 2 of the three weeks he was here. He did manage to do some jam sessions at the Snowcreek saloon. Mother-in-law spent a week over Christmas with us. I am now back to the studio. I did some reorganizing of layout to improve heat flow. its nice in there when the temperature i up to high 30s. Around -10 the studio temperature went down to 55. I have a kerosene backup if I need it.

Happy to be in the studio again.

My studio in the basement is unheated.  I use a small room heater when the temp drops, but I don't like the fan blowing.  So I was thinking of getting one of the radiant wall heaters....But my space is very small....10x11.  In the shop where I glaze/spray booth/kiln is unheated and very well insulated.  So a small space heater will take the chill off quickly.  I found those radiant wall heaters on Amazon.  Very reasonable.
