  2. The BUSINESS of Pottery

I came to pottery from a painting background so I was more comfortable showing work in a gallery setting. I am starting to push myself to make more work and show more places. This post was a great reminder to me to keep pushing. Thank you!
  3. Totality=One Lucky Guy

Mark, if you are selling prints I would buy a print of DSC_9453! Great shots! My hubs (the astrophysics nerd) and I went to Carbondale IL for the eclipse and it was about 2 min of totality but the clouds covered it for about 1.5 min. Luckily we were able to see the start and the end. It was an amazing experience - but next time we might pick somewhere a bit less crowded.

  5. You can see my apron in my avatar photo - just a simple split front apron I made out of some free denim. I actually made myself 2 of them - one for dark clay one for light clay. The apron works pretty well - it is thick enough that I can wipe my hands - I hose it down once and a while before throwing it in the wash. But It isn't the best design - I slapped it together and I still get clay on my clothes when I throw . . . I needed to add a "bib" part to it and the apron panels should be wider. I have recently have been researching some simple overall patterns that I can make oversize to put on over my clothes. . . I have to stop staining my shirts with the high iron clay. (that is not my studio - that was a community studio that I was just posing in)
  6. Special Items

I will be in Carbondale Illinois for the eclipse - I am hoping you are at the museum there! I will totally be buying cute one day only baubles -- my hubs is an astrophysics nerd. I think the suggestion for making eclipse themed items without a date is a good idea. Also, I wouldn't make too many - Limited Edition.
  7. Plaster Vs. Bisque Bats And Molds

Thank you Min - The flexible plastic sounds like a great idea.
  8. Plaster Vs. Bisque Bats And Molds

For these homemade bats - do you drill out for the bat pins? I just bought a bunch of Plaster to make a new reclaim area and think I might try this.
  9. I made one of these. - easy and quick http://www.instructables.com/id/The-Country-Pottery-Build-a-Extruder-gun/
  10. How I Pack Pots For Shipping

Thank you for sharing -- shipping is so scary for me. . . I saw a great post using egg cartons http://clayandpersimmons.blogspot.com/2014/03/packing-and-shipping-teapot.html
  11. I trade consistently for clinical massage and acupuncture - I would not justify such an expensive once a month treatment without being able to trade - and it keeps me in better shape to keep working. Our usual trade is dinnerware (about $60 in pottery retail price for each treatment)- but there are a few requests like a shallow long planter I am working on right now.
  12. Nilserik Stool From Ikea

I have been keeping my eye out at second hand shops and on craigslist for something similar to what you suggested Clay Lover but have not yet found it. . . guess the search will continue. Thank you
  13. Nilserik Stool From Ikea

I have been trying to find a stool for throwing that will tilt and be adjustable height. . . I saw the nilserik at Ikea yesterday and for $50 bucks seems like it would be a good less expensive alternative to the fancier stools available - but it kinda rocks and swivels I was wondering if anyone has used it? http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30309724/
  14. You are in the midwest like me, and if your weather has been anything like mine, the humidity is making it impossible for me to recycle clay in my normal time frame. . . might just be the weather. Don't know anything about the coloring. . .
  15. This is my first piece - made in a hand building ceramics class in college. . . It is a pinch pot made out of terra cotta and has engobe and clear glaze. I have used this as my pen cup through every job I have had since college. I love it tremendously even if it is really wonky.
